All the gays are probably updating their social media bios to quote this song lol Lana falls for the bad boy with some sort of drug dependency and possibly commitment issues. Is it worth it for her to open up and tell him how she feels? Probably not. What would even be the point if he's always going to keep her "at arm's length"? But in a true Lana fashion, she'll stick around. The outro to this is beautiful and echoes Born to Die. |

Sounds like a variation of her song "Shades of Blue" kind of? Maybe it's just the repetitive themes (i.e. California, being cool, being blue, not able to get through to this person, etc) Lana sings about a sad boy who maybe tries too hard to be cool. She's letting him know that she likes him for who he truly is. That even if he's going through a rough patch whether it be emotionally, mentally, or whatever - she will be there waiting for him in California, ready to do all of his fav things to cheer him up. |

To me, it sounds like she is singing about her doubts on wether she should keep investing herself, her time, her love on someone who might not feel the same for her. She doesn't want to put her life on hold ("am I standing still?") for someone who isn't going to stick around for the long run ("was that you passing me by?"). "Do you love me like I love you, or am I standing still...was that you passing me by?" I find that pretty self explanatory |

Maybe I'm wrong but it sounds like the singer is now at a place in his life where he is ready to settle down with someone from his past. He has experienced life and is now much older and wiser. Maybe he messed up? Maybe time is running out to redeem himself? Who knows. But he wants to be with this person because, although it didn't work out before, he still holds a special place for this person in his heart after all these years. Only problem is; he just doesn't know if it will be mutual. |

I guess she's expressing her vulnerability when she's around this [toxic?] man. She loves him and knows she is just setting herself up for heart break but continues on pursuing the relationship regardless of the negative outcome it may have. Why? Because she just loves him so much. Duh. So she falls to pieces for him. Once he's done, all her beautiful, naïve, innocent and pure thoughts/feelings are destroyed. He takes all that away from her and now she's ruined. The "fuck" and "bitch" in the background could be an internal dialogue. She's conflicted because she knows better than this and should know the consequences, she's telling herself to snap out of it before it's too late? Maybe I'm wrong |

for the longest time i interpreted this song as unrequited love. the singer still loves someone who has moved on and probably never really loved her the way she loved him. it is an adele song after all, right? but recently i heard this song and for some reason it had a slightly different meaning to me this time it could be that at some point the singer made a mistake and pushed someone away, someone that really loved her. now that this person has moved on, she's come to realize that it's too late and even though she wishes him the best, part of her still had hope for them to get back together |
