I go to UMass, former home of the pixies. Anyway, there is a professor here who has taught avant-garde film here for years, with Un Chien Andelusia as one of his yearly texts. Its been a rumor here for some time that Frank Black took his course, and Debaser was actually a nod to this man. Take that with a grain of salt though. |

Saying "Its about masterbation" cheapens this song. Yes, parts of it refer to masturbation, but not every friggen line. The songs about obsession and enfatuation... which leads to the masturbation. But its more than just a song about whacking off. |

This song is from a cult leader to a new initiate. Planting his seed is brainwashing, a lot of the lines follow the idea of brainwashing. The giveaway line is the "you'll be selling books at the airport," which is a cult cliche. Also, the hari krishna's are not a cult. no need to be ignorant. |

i think its just about destructive behavior, maybe drugs, maybe more. He is trying to show his friend how his actions are destroying him, and that he wont just watch and let him go. |

I don't think the story is complicated at all. He comes to a place that meant something to him and his friend who killed himself. He allows himself to imagine what it would be like if his friend was still there, what they could change and how proud he would be of his loved one. The joke he is suffering is playing that game, wishing he could change the past, but he realizes that will bring him nowhere. So with his thoughts still lingering on his friend, he leaves. All there is left to do is keep driving. |
