It is NO coincidence it sounds like "Sugarhill Gang's" Rapper's delight. Here was the evolution-- Chic's "good times" a #1 on hot 100 in 1979 -> a approximate rendition of the melody from Chic went into Rapper's delight (the 1st top 40 rap song, I think in 1979) --> the hip, hop lyric was then used by Las Ketchup in their song. Note the instrumental melody (bass track) from Chic was NOT digitally sampled like rap songs today -- it was at a different tempo and "ad lib". |
