It's a metaphor. Two people who were already in a committed relationship with someone else both left their partners because they fell in love with each other. So, in order to gain their own happiness, they broke the hearts of two other people. For them to be together they had to really fucking hurt the people they were already committed to. The whole song is just the stream-of-consciousness through the eyes of someone who left their partner for another person. It's about the guilt they feel for gaining happiness at the expense of their family. They end up questioning themselves and the commitment of love. If they betrayed once, will they do it again with their new lover? |
