"A lifeline in a drop of blood": i don't agree with the opinion that ths line's about ancestry. he says "lifeline," not "lifetime." i think he's bleeding the last drop of blood that has kept him alive.
"A dying wish to shun a God": hopes god/heaven don't exist, because he's concerned about all the bad things he's done in his life.
"Sought a dream inside the light": made a dying wish as he "sees the light"
"Finally relieved from plight": finally over.

i'm less sure about what the rest of the song's about. i really like the lines "Tracks in the snow / Leading them to woe." to me, he's describing the children's last trek. they either discover something terrible or something terrible happens to them.

Opeth – Burden Lyrics 14 years ago
to me, it's about a mother driving her car into the ocean with kids in the back seat and a baby in her womb.

"I once upon a time / Carried a burden inside": unwanted pregnancy
"I sung a last goodbye / A broken rhyme I had underlined": mother's singing lullabies to her children while she's driving, but this time it's different from the other times (hence "underlined").
"There's an ocean of sorrow in you": here, i think "ocean" is both literal and figurative. the car has fallen into the water.

"I saw a movement in their eyes / That said I no longer knew the way": her kids are looking around and suspect something's not right.
"I had given up the ghost / A passive mind submit to fear": she is relatively at ease at first, but becomes afraid before she dies.

"And the wait for redemption at hand": hoping she can somehow redeem herself for what she's done.
"If death should take me now / Count my mistakes and let me through": she feels what she's done can be forgiven and she should still be let into heaven.

"Whisper in my ear / You have taken more than we've received": she's taken more years of her kids' lives than she gave them.
