Incorrect. This song has little in common with Dr. No's "Underneath the Mango Tree." It's actually a cover of "Under the Bamboo Tree," Cole and Johnson Bros., 1903. It's possible the change from bamboo to mango was inspired by Dr. No. "Under the Bamboo Tree" was sung by Judy Garland and Joan Carroll in the 1944 film "Meet Me in St. Louis." It was also sung, with the change from bamboo to mango, by Steve Martin and Sissy Spacek in the 1983 film "The Man with Two Brains." |
