Absolutely correct concerning the depression theory. And as much as I associate with the lyrics of this song being a sufferer of MDD myself, I would never choose to describe depression as a "sadness". I feel the tag undermines the true implications of being depressed. Grieving can be gotten through, a bad day can be forgotten but true depression is an illness. Anyone facing it is battling something as difficult to eradicate as cancer. I use cancer as an example due to the simple universally immutable fact that an individual can think they are free of their disease only to have it return tenfold.
Perhaps Matt Berninger is a person affected by his environment as opposed to being predisposed biological to being depressed. If so that would explain why he sings "I don't wanna get over you..." He may be in love with his depression. In some bizarrely perverse way he takes comfort in riding his lows. Good tune but far from their best. I most certainly, however, empathise with the lyrics. |
