Josh Ritter – Change of Time Lyrics | 12 years ago |
Hang in there! When I heard this song...all I could think of was Pablo Neruda's poem- If You Forget Me: I want you to know one thing. You know how this is: if I look at the crystal moon, at the red branch of the slow autumn at my window, if I touch near the fire the impalpable ash or the wrinkled body of the log, everything carries me to you, as if everything that exists, aromas, light, metals, were little boats that sail toward those isles of yours that wait for me. To me, its a song about how the people we love in our lives help us deal with the demons of our past. The past and how it comes back to us can be so real - and I love the way he captures the violence and suddenness of these moments - 'the sails of memory rip open in silence, the white white caps of memory, confusing and violent'. And that even though those injuries were old, and 'rusting', they can be as real and vivd, as if they were happening at that moment. And I like the way he seems to be juggling love and chaos, the chorus " time, love", sounds reassuring, as if he were telling his lover that yes, its just been a change of time, he still has issues to settle, but its okay, she's his anchor :) |

I agree! such an eloquent way to express the difficulty of being vulnerable, and the desire to be genuine. |
