The Birthday Massacre – Remember Me Lyrics 14 years ago
I'm gonna go out on a limb and say it's about suicide x) I mean...

And if i tried to get away, how long until i'm free?
And if i don't come back here, will you remember me?

...
If i try to die how long before i get the release, and if i actually go through with it, will anyone remember me anyway?

The Jezabels – Hurt Me Lyrics 14 years ago
I like to think of this as being from the point of view of someone with a man with a pretty bad temper. I don't mean physical abuse though. You now, mentally kill her..
The vulture standing beside him...the mean part of himself. She wonders if he can even see it..

At one point it was pretty much whatever he said seemed real. And that whenever he got pissy and wanted to go, she'd try to follow him. But, not when she could tell he was -really- pissed. {But never where the dogs bark, never where the dogs bark}

So she waits behind, for him to stop being a dick, praying he'll even say something nice or sweet, if he can.

Now I've a dream of you with half a face
and you take me to a rooftop and skin me
come on, Abel, are you going to skin me?
and use it as a mask to keep you in the dark
when the shadow of the moon won't do

She dreams of him, well, half of him, the side of him that's cruel, Abel. She wonders how much he's going to hurt her really..and how much he can hide behind it, when the reality starts to set in.

'cause on you, the moon is but a pearl
stolen from your mother's bedside the day you came into the world
still now, i can hear the dogs bark, i can hear the dogs bark

She starts to think about how wonderful he is and crap. The other side of him, why she loves him so much and what not....But his temper. It seems to have a tendency to overshadow his good sometime.

The whole chorus to me just pretty much saying, she knows it's gonna come, no matter what, he's going to blow up over something. Whole cities light up...but nothing can compare...It's just that amazing how he can get. So she just waits for him to come and get it over with. Even challenges him a tad, I guess. "Hurt me, hurt me, come down to the world. Hurt me, come on Abel, cut me, cut me, serve me round the table." You know, do your worst?

and now it's laying on the table
waiting for you, on the table
to carve it up and watch the spray go across the river-bed
and sweet aromas fill the halls from all the bodies that came before
and that's the body, i swear that's the body

Shes still doing that waiting thing.. For him to come do his worst. But now, because of the like....passion in her voice and crap, it seems like shes really telling him to do it, like she really wants him to, do worse then his worst. And as she takes it she remembers..well, all the other times hes done this to her. The other "bodies" he got to rip into, or other people hes went off on i guess. But thats the body....the one he can just have with no fight.

Yeah, the end of this is pretty much repetitive, but it's how Hayley sings that makes the difference. All...dramatic and deep feeling...and...stuff. Its almost like shes begging for it...because it will release her, its what he wants, what she knows will happen, and that's just how it is.....and i think she's okay with that being part of who herself and Abel are.

I have a second theory though of just the end...because of "You'll be doing fine when your able". The line i see as him saying it to her, kind of a "one day you'll stop just taking all my crap" thing. But she's way too into it by now, too used to it. OR he's leaving as he says it to her, and then she'll have no-one to hurt her...so that's why she just says (loudly) at the end, "hurt me hurt me hurt me, cut me, cut me, serve me"

Just me thoughts and stuff..

The Jezabels – Mace Spray Lyrics 14 years ago
Even though Hayley says it's about feminism and that ..fun stuff. That's too intricate for my tiny brain, and I'd rather relate it to love, because it's a sweet little song x)

To me this is more of a ... story. First part is just her going to a familiar place where she admires the architecture and...self reflects and crys. For the moment, "she" is herself.

Second verse...well, she a hoe. She doesn't like it, but she's good at it. And then she detached and just does her thing...

Then she remembers...someone loves her. "More than anyone who wouldn't lay a hand" = More than anyone who's ever tried or been gentle with her. Whatever >_> But that doesn't make her feel any more secure in the ..world I guess you can say, and whoever this person shes involved with is. I like to think it's a man that she can't rely on so she keeps mace spray just in case. (You keep mace spray, for you can't rely on the common man. Ha!) She finds it funny, i guess. She feels this way, knows its probably a bit...much, but she still has a bit of a bright look on it. I kind of imagine her looking at her mace spray, thinking about possibly using it on some guy {or to make up for some guy failing to protect her} having a chuckle...walking away to soon think about her lover. (This is also just because I'm a freak, btw) Metaphorically speaking of course...

Later at night, she's staring up at the moon and stars and junk. (I picture it a very nice little display, much like the ending scene of Kingdom Hearts...) something comes down to her and moves...the glass shatters all around her looking pretty and stuff. To me this paints an epiphany. That whatever shes got going for her is a good thing, its beautiful and mysterious.} Kind of like a higher force trying to make her realize there isn't a need to be -so- afraid and crap...But, she only sees that its an obstacle she can't get through, because she's "an empty hourglass in the sand" = nothing important. I mean..you can only do so much with an empty hourglass. You can stare for a while...play with it o.O ....your going to get bored. Especially if all the "sand" is around it, yeah?

Then she realizes again someone loves her x) and it makes her feel better. Even though she's got her guard up cause men suck...she's going to try to go along with it. Because the person is patient with her, gentle (But it is all right, here in the time and the place i am. you leave a light on -all night- just to remind of the place i am) and just loves her for her, and reminds her that she's a bit more then just...something to look at.......and a hoe. She's still conflicted about it though, having her guard up or if she should let it down. But...y'know.

The actual end of the song isn't here...But i think it's one of the most important parts...

But she loves me..
Hey, yeah
In the time and the place I am
You keep mace spray
Hey yeah,
You can't rely on the common man...

To me the "hey yeah" are kind of...like shes saying it. "She loves me...hey, yeah she does" kind of thing. But shes still got her mace spray! To me this is like a nice little balance, between her distrust and her love with her other.

I'm horrible at explaining x_x but there is my feedback. I can't relate to feminism...because that seems hard. Idk, hopefully you guys get my what i'm trying to get at...maybe someone could rewrite it with like.. elegance and ...sense.

The Jezabels – Be A Star Lyrics 14 years ago
I thinksss

To me, i get a story of a boy and a girl, trying to achieve their dreams. She wants to be a star, he wants to be a girl. (She was never meant to be a star, he was never meant to be a boy)

They both spend so much time trying to be what they want to be, they lose track of other things, like eachother, and even get into situations they shouldn't be in.. (Came across a man who could stop the world with a clap of his hands. Said you've got the attitude. Who's got the attitude for rock?) (So welcome to the town where drag queens made the cash. Selling kids acid tabs.)

So then, they realize just how much they are changing themselves (Who's got the attitute for rock/ice now?) and try to get back to how they used to be, since it isn't worth it if they aren't really themselves. (Oh I wanted you but your eyes don't shine like they used to. God I want it all but you guys don't like all the old songs) aka "i really want this but it's losing it's luster"

They pretty much decide that as long as they have each other they can say screw the fame dream and get back to the fun they were having in the first place. (As long as you've got stars in your eyes you keep me coming back to you.Keep me coming, keep, keep me coming)

One day they'll get to where they want to be, but they're only 17. What's the rush? They have plenty of time to jump through hoops to make it big.....or be a girl... [that im not entirly sure about to be honest]. Like a "who wants this anyway" thing. (But who has got the attitude for* love anyway?)

Somethinggg like thatttt >_<"
