To me, the entire album was leading to Eclipse. Eclipse seems to be the song that ties it all together and summarizes the whole album--or life itself. While many people here are saying it's all about life being completely meaningless, I think of it a bit different. I think Eclipse is saying that everyone has their own fate. Each individual's life is meant to go in a certain direction and, when or if it does, you end up with a great life where everything is good in the end. But then there's the Dark Side Of The Moon. I'm seeing Eclipse as a song saying that every little detail in life is important, and depending on what decisions you make, you can end up in two places-- the Sun, or The Dark Side Of The Moon. The Sun is the perfect life described above. You have everything you want, and you're satisfied. But The Dark Side Of The Moon is depression, greed, jealousy, evil...Money, Time, etc. This song is saying that everything about your life is going to be perfect in the end...in the Sun. But it will take people forever to reach the Sun. Some people never reach the Sun. And until you're at the Sun, you're stuck..in the Dark Side Of The Moon. Oh and..I'm so surprised this hasn't come up much: The album is a loop. Eclipse ends with the same heartbeat that Speak to Me starts with. It's the never-ending cycle of life. |

Oh god. I was going to give a meaning for this song. But I made the mistake of not listening to it much until recently. Last night, I fell asleep and this song was on repeat. I fell asleep before I turned it off, and now the song sounds slow and distorted when I try to play it because my brain is now used to how this song sounded while I was asleep. My poor brain. Anyway, I'll be spending the afternoon playing this even more, hoping the real sound comes back. Dave's singing sounds low and emotionless, and the instruments that once sounded so beautifully haunting and emotional now sound...haunting in a different way. They're slow and distorted so badly. I'll post my meaning when the song actually comes back to me. |

Another one I found in All Apologies: "Aqua seafoam shame" sounds like it's a hidden message as well. It appears that the line SHOULD be "I proceed from shame." |

The Colour and The Shape is such a great album in general. When you think about it, it tells a story of someone growing stronger. It opens with "in all of the times that we've shared, I've never felt so scared," in Doll, and ends with "I'm not scared," in this song. |

I think there's deeper meaning in this song--besides it just being about his Cotillion. I definitely have the feeling that this song is also poking fun at the obsession and reliance with technology in society today, and the greed to always have the latest and best things. |
