I think it's about a family falling out for a long time and he's referring to his mum singing to him when he was young, and he's trying to do what she did to bring the family back together. And the 'English Way' meaning he never gave up on trying. ;) |

I think this song is about maybe losing friends or rough relationships and moving on to better things/looking on the brighter side of life. But he hides these messages in a complex mix of apocalyptic events (e.g "If the bombs go off the sun will still be shining" "Every mushroom cloud has a silver lining") and everyday doings. |
