Armor for Sleep – Lullaby Lyrics 14 years ago
Great song by an otherwise mediocre band.

This one seems to be about being stuck in a bad relationship - though it seems that the issues are all with the "other" person, not the singer. This relationship seems to have been doomed from the start.

I'm just the ground/That you happened to fall on/When you lost your balance walking around in the rain"

The singer is explaining that when he/she met the other person, that person was going through something serious. Just when the other person hit rock bottom, he/she found the singer and the relationship began. It seems like this person needed the singer to get through his/her problems. This was more of an accident than something "meant to be."

"And you got to your feet/Scratched your head and started to gather/The life that you dropped all around me."

Here, the singer is explaining that when the other person finally got past their issues, they almost seemed confused as to how and why they were with the singer in the first place. Thereafter, the other person begin to rebuild their own life - after having shared all the previous negativity with the singer and, ultimately, falling apart.

"You never had the guts to just throw me away."

The singer here is explaining that long after the relationship had "died". The singer is saying that the other person was never brave enough to walk away. At the same time, the singer is lamenting that he was never brave enough to leave either.

Great, emotional track.

Feeder – High Lyrics 14 years ago
One of my all time faves. A classic.

The meaning is fairly obvious, but with some deeper concepts and metaphor if you listen more closely. For me, this song symbolized my early- to mid-20's after graduating from university. I spent much of that time running from responsibility and drowning myself if drugs, wine and women. Going out with my friends and getting high was my escape from the reality that was threatening to overtake me. I feel like that is the meaning of this song. So much symbolism related to getting caught, lost or stuck:

"As I stare at the trees/I see one fall down on my hand"

"As I sink...As I sink again"

"Sat in a boat on a lake"

The song culminates with realization that I/he must move on. Certain imagery which elicits fear of the future mixed with images of the present:

"See myself in a glass/I'm counting the lines on my face"

Could easily mean seeing himself as an old man. It can also mean seeing his face through the line of cocaine on a mirror.

"Guess I'm stuck in a dream/Surrounded by coloured leaves on the ground"

A very Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds type of image. Very hallucination-based scene. I also find it telling that he feels "stuck" in the dream, rather than happy to be there. This line is repeated again near the midpoint of the sound. Interesting choice of words.

All in all, this is on my top-10 ever. It means a lot to me because I can relate to so much of the imagery with my own personal experiences.

Feeder – Sweet 16 Lyrics 14 years ago
Incest or molestation of a young family member. The song is loses some of its seriousness in the way that it is presented - classic Brit pop sound. That said, this reminds me of the Sundays - making sad songs sound happy.

Feeder – Suffocate Lyrics 14 years ago
The original polythene pressing version is a classic down-tempo, 3-piece song, but lacks the grunginess of the rest of the tracks on that album.

The new version has a decidedly "sythetic" sound to it. Much more slickly (and heavily) produced.

TBH, the new version is mountains better. This was my least favorite track off Polythene when I first heard the record (yes, I liked it even less than Tangerine). Now, it's way up the list.

Yet another song about heroine. Gotta love the imagery, even if this track lacks the artistry of songs off of Magnified or Comfort.

Failure – Bernie Lyrics 14 years ago
Yet another drug-fueled rambling about days spent loaded. Gotta love Failure. So easy to spot the meanings, yet so artfully presented.

A great track.

Econoline Crush – Razorblades And Bandaides Lyrics 14 years ago
This is my favorite depressed song. The meaning is fairly mundane and obvious...its not even presented in a very artful way. Nonetheless, it is an amazing, emotional song.

This is my song for a lost love.

Deftones – Bored Lyrics 14 years ago
Might be my favorite Deftones song ever. Certainly the best on Adrenaline.

It's about Chino's drug/alcohol habit. He is relating how he turns to it to cope with his boredom and how he feels stuck in this cycle. His dependency is a cure for his boredom, but he wishes there was another way.

Deftones – Change (In the House of Flies) Lyrics 14 years ago
I find it sad that THIS is the Deftones song with the most comments. It may be one of their worst.

Anyway - it's about meeting someone special, watching them change before your eyes, and beginning to hate the person they've become.
