Heaven 17 – Temptation Lyrics 11 years ago
There are elements of the cover that I enjoy as metal gives it a different kind of energy, and I love the female singer they got because of how gritty & aggressive yet sexy the way she sings it is, but otherwise I can't agree. I understand how one might simply not enjoy that New Wave-y 80's sound, but I think it's still the better-constructed version. Plus I can't stand how stereotypically goth Dani Filth's "singing" is. (And this is coming from a Manson fan.)

In any case it's totally subjective. I got sick of this kind of argument after Tool's cover of 'No Quarter'. :)

AFI – Beautiful Thieves Lyrics 14 years ago
I agree with previous posters, but I would take it a step further. He is obviously talking about high profile people, but I think he is presenting it from their perspective in order to take a jab at the people who continually support and allow them to get away with it (us). In the video, the people at the party are depicted as being very extravagant in their own capacity as well as being oblivious. He may be taking a jab at Americans in particular rather than attacking celebrities and politicians because, let's be honest, the idea that those people get away with murder (figuratively and/or literally) is sacrosanct.

This is coming from an anti-religious lyricist who isn't content to simply call attention to the problems with organized religious institutions, but rather singles out the beliefs themselves (as well as the average people who hold these ridiculous beliefs, thereby continuing to give said institutions reason to exist). Davey Havok manages to be subtle and clever while not pulling any punches. This song isn't about celebrities, it's about YOU.
