I don't think it necessarily implies cheating...just perhaps casual sex without emotional attachment. It reminds me of of a woman moving from lover to lover after getting out a long relationship, wounded and unwilling to open her heart again, exemplified in the line: "keeping secrets from my heart and from my soul." |

Agree with the strong metaphor suggesting Mary Magdelene and reckoning. Mary Magdelene, for many years was symbolized as a harlot and whore -- but returned through time and history to tell her true story and take her rightful place as Apostle to the Apostles and Beloved of Jesus (whether or not they were actual lovers). This song suggests also with the line "I've come to burn your kingdom down" that this is a time of reckoning and the truth will finally be known to all. |
