| My Mother told me something that sure got the cogs moving in my brain. i was talking about how the title of this song didn't show up in the lyrics, but is the underlying feelings of the song. i was explaining how the title made me think of playing cards. 'One diamond, one Heart' was kinda like 'An ace of diamonds and an ace of hearts' but my mother saw it differently. she saw it as Marriage. 'One Diamond, (One ring) One Heart.' and that COMPLETELY changed my opinion of this song. | |

the synth sound is very classic, like it kind of maks me think of Beethoven, in a way. from personal experience (and this is probably just me, and i just wanted to spill this, and get it off my chest) i had a girlfriend for just about 6 months. she constantly titled herself a "Flower" in her poetry, and other stuff. how she would sprout in the winter, and bloom in the spring. I broke up with my Flower because, at the time, i was depressed, and narcoleptic. and if i did anything to myself, i didn't want it to affect her. i guess. that's just an excuse. everything's an excuse. our relationship was at a standstill. it always was. that's ok, she didn't want to go too far too fast, and that's ok. this song means alot to me. she's a free Wildflower that isn't held down by this mess of a person. i'm better now, thanks to my medication, but i was this close to shooting myself in the goddamn face ;D and this song will always remind me of her. without me dragging her down, she can be free. a Wildflower, in the wilderness outside. |

NO reliance on power chords, but their is a really cool melody/riff/solo thingy at the end, it sounds like Pomp and Circumstances, but a lot better. "I'm Wasted, along the way to reach you.." wasted can have alot of different meanings. If you look around the album booklet, you'll see a few pictures. Pyramids, a full moon, an Apollo moon lander of some sort, ECT. it looks like this song is where that all comes from. To be honest, i don't think they have anything important to do with the album, except some pretty cool lines. Glissandra REALLY reminds me of Tristessa, the beat and guitars are similar, but it still manages to be completely unique. it feels like this was meant to be the climax of the album, but it doesn't sound that way. the lyrics, however, are out for blood. ambitious. it looks like these lyrics took the longest to make. only a few repeating lines, and no real chorus. it still manages to be a really good addition to the album, and fits right in with all the unique-sounding songs, and different sounds. and... do i spot a Pink Floyd reference..? "..Pipers play for Dawn" huh. Pink Floyds debut album was called "Piper at the Gates of Dawn". tryin' to make yet ANOTHER sneaky Pink Floyd reference, are we, Billy? that's cool, not alot of people are gonna catch it, i guess. "Abuse the modern minds, Crushed on what you'll find" i wonder what those last lines mean. it's definitely from the perspective of someone alot more famous than the average person, so i don't think i'll ever understand. Great song, Beautiful melody, great Lyrics, 10/10. |

huh. i wonder why only this song has correct lyrics.. no matter, i'm just glad someone other than me listens to these XD sometimes it feels that way in the world. all the Robots walk around, headphones spewing SHIT into their rotten ears. some people deserve no tongues. i wish more people would recognize this music as the superior. other music is profane, no feeling. just fucking bitches, and auto-tune to hide their lack of talent. i'm in a hurry, so i cannot post my interpretation of this song, only my hate for others ;) |

it's strange, alot of these Song titles don't show up in the songs at all. The Chimera is a good example. but thats OK. alot of great bands have song titles that don't make an appearance in the song itself, but are the actual MEANING of the song. like Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, and Pearl Jam. What is see when i close my eyes and think of 'The Chimera', is a beast. and when that bass kicks in, it SOUNDS like a beast! growling, or roaring. it's really cool. the lyrics are dreamy. "Nightingales and nursery Crimes.." "Twins that spark the charts," there's another term thrown into this song, 'Summer' meaning the present. NOW. nice and sunny. y'know, Summer. "summertime is the only child, summertime is the only child this night." this line means that summer is young, like a child. Billy Corgan made us wait until Early-Summer for the release of this album. i think that it means something. he released the album when Summertime was only a child. when it was early in the season. i think it was to hype-up the feel of these summertime songs, and make Winter seem so far away, so cold and distant. it all makes sense now. |

i hate to say this EVERY single song, but this is so beautiful. "Please come back... please come back... Pale Horse.." the background vocals by Nicole are amazing. NO Reliance on power-chords, and REALLY good bass. for some reason, it doesn't sound like Billy's bass playing. Nicole definitely had a lot of influence in this album. it's not ALL Billy, like the other albums. other than that, this is just a REALLY catchy melody. Thorazine is used to treat schizophrenia, and other mental disorders. it can also treat explosive, aggressive behavior in children up to age 12. but i've seen the affects of it with my own eyes. is it doing any good? it's very hard to tell. it causes alot of eerie side-affects. "They give you this [Thorazine], they take away that [Possibly your own MIND, or your sanity.]. Thooorraziine..Thorazine." that's kind of what i get out of this song. it's got an upbeat to it, but the lyrics are kind of depressing. like 'Today'. |

Once again, wrong lyrics XD but that's ok, because i know the correct ones. it's strange, the album it totally different from pre-Oceania, to post-Oceania. less reliance on power-chords, more unique beats and riffs, (ESPECIALLY Pale Horse.) i love the 3 solos' at the end, they feel so cold and quick. i would love to know if Schroeder did any of them, because it doesn't sound like Billy's sound, you know? a truelly amazing song, "I'm so alone, so alone, but better then i ever was.." is a really cool analogy of the missing band. IN MY OPINION, Billy's better off without the old band. they didn't help in any of the other albums anyway, they were just his puppets for concerts. but Oceania (the album) sounds like it was highly influenced by the new band, like Billy let them actually DO stuff! maybe he loosened up over the years. anyway, they made a great album like they haven't done since '95. a perfect Pumpkin lineup. a variety of different sounds, ALL unique in their own way, yet making a few subliminal references to other songs, (IE: Quasar's opening riff is like Cherub Rock's opening riff; Panopticon is kind of like Bodies, in some ways.) maybe i'll go through Mellon Collie song-by-song one day. Oceania is a great song, but it's kind stretched. i would much rather have a 5-minute Unique master-piece, than a 9-minute, beat-the-dead-horse distortion party. on second thought, thats exactly what Starla is, but i absolutely LOVE Starla. on third thought, Nine minutes is EXACTLY what Oceania NEEDED. the only really long song is Oceania, and that's great. if you don't like long-songs, don't listen to it. but if you like the Smashing Pumpkins, then you KNOW that they are really good at long songs (Silverfuck, Starla, Geek U.S.A, United States). when you look back on it, Oceania sounds like it's divided into multiple parts. and the Oceania-riff is mysteriously painful sounding. Billy said "I wanted to make an album like the 90s; i would think, how did i make a rock song in the 90s? how would i make an emotional song in the 90s? how would i make a slow song in the 90s" and so on. so he is really going back to his roots, by going through and Re-mastering Gish and Siamese Dream, he was finding out how he used to think, and THAT'S how Oceania was born. |

Being the first person to go through each song off of Oceania individually (at least on this website,) is pretty difficult, as i earlier explained, i lent my CD of Oceania to a friend, so i do not have the lyrics, and the website (at least to this date) does not have any of the lyrics correctly posted. the only other comments are the regular: "I LoVE THis SOnG!!1!" comments, so i'm not really copying anyone. NOW to the song: Pinwheels is... so.. beautiful. going from that beautful electric riff, to the acoustic chant for the moon that we have now called Pinwheels. not much to say, other than that :/ but it DOES wrap up the 4-song story of Violet Rays, My Love is Winter, One Diamond, One Heart, and Pinwheels. at least that's what i believe, nothings been confirmed. (Billy/ You/ Main character) finds out, that "What gets lost, if i got you?" if he has her, what could possibly be lost? well, alot. but for the sake of the story, i think it's alot deeper than I'm looking into it. |

If you were to put these songs into a sequence, like a concept album, (in my opinion) they would make sense. Violet Rays, he (Billy/ you/ Main character) is cheated on by his lover, and he's sad. My Love is Winter, he believes his love is gone, cold, and distant. One Diamond, One Heart, possibly making a reference to playing cards, (One, meaning Ace obviously. Ace of Diamonds, Ace of Hearts.) is giving love another chance, but letting her guide him. Light is a term thrown around in Smashing Pumpkins, meaning Love, but more importantly, knowing HOW to Love. IN MY OPINION, these 4 songs, (Violet Rays, My Love is Winter, One Diamond, One Heart, and Pinwheels.) all go in sequence, they ALL mean something, like there's possibly a concept, but just these 4 songs. I'm always on your side. <3 great song, it kind of made me smile when i first heard it. it's pretty silly, a kind of disco sound to it XD but with a serious tone to it. it's REALLY hard to listen to this song with someone who doesn't understand the Smashing Pumpkins. to them, this is a pointless, silly song, with no meaning, or chords. but if you actually understand it, this is a very beautiful song. |

| its a bummer, i've heard ALOT of mixed opinions about My Love is Winter. as i said in Panopticon; Winter is a term in the album, meaning a negative connotation of the near future, being cold and distant."My Love is Winter, My Love is Gone" it makes perfect sense, following Violet Rays, he was cheated on, now his love is gone. its sad :( even the riffs seem cold and distant. the loud parts in this song are good, but the truelly amazing parts, are the quieter parts, the kind of 'synth-riff' before the cold solo, is really climatic. i don't know why anyone could hate this song :/ but it follows Violet Rays really well, and One Diamond, One Heart is perfect following MLIW, giving love another chance. | |

| ahh, the slow changes made throughout the album, i mean, look at Quasar, then Wildflower. huge difference! less reliance on power chords. the beginning of this song... was.. amazing. the first time i listened to it, Shine on you crazy diamond was the first thing i thought of :) the synth is so beautiful, this should be a hit. the lyrics were definitely inspired by Billy's last relationship, he didn't say so himself, but when he was asked in an interview, he didn't want to say, so chances are, it is XD "Am i the only one you see?" ... "I'll leave with anyone this night" she cheated on him, :( so sad. but he made a ver sweet song with it. | |

a huge change in tempo, from the first two pounding, fast songs, to The Celestials. the beginning reminds me of Disarm, in a way. "Special K" really confused me, because it kinda sounded silly, in this really serious song. Special K (Special Ketamine) is a drug, [usually used at dance parties ;) ]that kinda lifts you from your physical body, and gives you this, out-of-body experience, and numbs you. Billy is saying he wants to be her (or your) escape from life, "your free with me". when the song changes into a thick, metal song, all my dreams came true. XD when i was listening to this cool acoustic song, i was like, "wow, this is sweet, but it would be sweeter if it had power chords," then BAM, Billy doesn't disapoint.. usually. i love the mind-numbing feedback at the end, drives other people crazy though, i think its cool. |

| (these lyrics are incorrect, Btw. i would correct them, but i lent my copy of the album out to a friend.) Panopticon was my favorite song before the album was released. when i heard them play it live, i got really pumped for the album's release. it kind of connects to the ending of Quasar, too. a Panopticon is a kind of prison, so i think the song is about being trapped, in a way, symbolically. there are alot of terms thrown around the album. one being seasons, like Summer and Winter. i think Summer represents now, and Winter represents the near-future, but kind of a negative outlook on it, being distant and cold. but in a way, kind of desiring it. the Sun, and Light are some more terms thrown around, but that'll come in more later. i think Quasar and Panopticon are kind of the intro to Oceania, and The Celestials is the REAL beginning, and maybe even the climax of the whole album. I LOVE PANOPTICON. the guitar just makes you THINK of the ocean. it's perfect. | |

| Our glorious opener to this amazing new album. pumped up with pounding drums, Gish-ish power chords, and something we all couldn't have missed. "YOD HE VAU HE OM!!" Which translates to "Mother Father Daughter Son," (and then OM). my interpretation is that Billy knew we all missed this sound from the mid-90's, so he through all of it and more at the very beginning of the album. also, it's got the very feeling of Cherub Rock at the beginning to symbolize going back to that thrashy, old, early 90's sound. lyrics are meaningless, but i think this song symbolizes the beginning of life, in a way. being the beginning of the album, and fading in slowly, then exploding into a full-force, pounding masterpiece! i love the drums, i just can't get enough of it. i've heard of people HATING Quasar, and i can't imagine why. it's a perfect opener for Oceania, since alot of the stuff later in the album is alot different. | |
