John Martyn – Don't Want to Know Lyrics 14 years ago
Hi

Listening to the LP (yes, I know!) I reckon verse 1 reads:

Sometimes it gets so hard to listen,
Hard for me to use my eyes.
And all around the cold is glistening,
Making sure it keeps me down to size.

and verse 2 reads:

I'm waiting for the planes to tumble,
Waiting for the towns to fall.
I'm waiting for the cities to crumble,
Waiting till I see you crawl.

What do I think it means?

I reckon it's about loving money. ("The love of money is a root of all evil")

It speaks to me of him not wanting to know about cold, heartless money. Yet, he's also admitting being attracted by it and trying to resist its lure.

It's also saying in verse 2 that the whole of our possessions can come crashing down and if that's all we love, we'll end up crawling in the dirt with them.

The song's SO old but SO relevant just now.
