Before I realized this was a Christian band, I also thought this song was about a failed relationship, and made me think of my boyfriend too :) It made me think of how I would feel without my boyfriend. ...I know a lot of people are gonna hate me for this, but I just have to say my opinion...I'm not saying this is what this song is about, but listening to it just now reminded me of what Bella was like in New Moon when Edward left... *please don't hurt me!* |

My boyfriend's brother just introduced me to this band a few weeks ago, and I must say, I am hooked! I thought Skillet was just a normal rock/punk band, until I went to buy some of their songs on iTunes and it listed the genre as Christian/Gospel. I was so shocked! Then I listened to some of the songs again, and I heard the religious allusions. Now, I'm Jewish. I have nothing against Christians, and some of my best friends are Christian. Personally, I interpret a lot of Skillet's songs as either having little religious references, or having only general allusions to religion. So even though I know Skillet is a Christian band, I think a lot of their songs can be related to by anyone of any moralistic faith, whether it be Christianity, Judaism, Islam, etc. The ones that mention Jesus are a bit of a different story of course, but I still like those songs anyway. Personally, "Monster" is less about Christianity for me, and just the struggle to keep faith in yourself and your god in general, and the struggle of controlling the "monster" inside us all. That is something any one can relate to. "Monster" is my favorite Skillet song, and I'm so glad I heard about this band. P.s. - thinking about how "Monster" is about the monster inside us all makes me think of "Lord of the Flies". I think William Golding would like this song very much xD P.p.s. - I think it's great that devout Christians have other religious music to listen to besides just church hymns etc. |
