wow! okay. here in the beginning Jordan is singing about he && his lover are causing havoc "hatchets" with their sin "wander blindly" (we lose awareness in sin) which is lust "forest of flesh" in the beginning. we then call themselves lepers which were people who were terribly sick in the bible; so sick that nobody wanted to even touch them; they were outcasts. he then sings how their sin is completely destructive. "never give them bread" i love this line! it basically means to give glory to Christ. Christ gave us (his disciples) bread so that we may live with Him. && now they haven't returned the bread Christ 1st gave them. I don't know serious Jordan's faith is in actuality but his songs literally screams out his overwhelming faith in Christ. He knows judgement is at the end (physical death) and he wants God to place wrath on them not mercy which to me says that he wants God to discipline him like a good father would do. Hope this helps! |

the beginning introduces the cruelty of this world especially with the first line. us (children) are trying to find solid ground to stand on a "shaking" world. things are not stable. the foreigners would be anyone to sees the human race for the first time would even understand pain && how fear would even understand pain too at first. (you know, how we not act or do act on fear to avoid pain) "hands off your fate, child, you'll bury yourself in mistakes." asks the question should we leave life on our will entirely? if so, that causes us pain. but how on earth do we fix this? so what to do now? "see the reverse; there's an answer there" means to explore yourself. this is directly tied with Socrates famous quote: "the unexamined life is not worth living." jordan says to reflect on your life. "my, my, the ways i've changed since then--the ways i've changed. and all I ever say is "i'm (tired)" jordon here obviously understands the importance of self examination; he's changed himself to better himself but now he is tired && discouraged in his spiritual growth and personal character growth. ahhh how poetic jordan is! "water into wining" i love that line because Christ turned water into whine but Jordan takes this and put his poetic touch to illustrate how we've forsaken Christ's blood and how we all whined because we are tired of the pain caused by this world. He just wants to be like Christ. && he says here that others do too. I freakin' love this song. It takes about Jordan's struggles with the personal walk with Christ. Which I love since I am on the same boat. Hope this helps! |
