Wow, I had a completely different take on these lyrics. I think it's an anti-war song. About a little girl, full of all the love and promise of all little girls, but born into a world where bullets are flying, where she doesn't feel safe. So, every night she escapes into her dreams where she dreams of paradise. "She expected the world" and instead "caught bullets in her teeth". I think, too, it's about a Muslim girl, as Muslims do believe, and talk of 'Paradise' in the afterlife. This is what she is told, everyday, as her circumstances are hard, and the pretty things are destroyed, that she will one day be in paradise. Lovely song. Sad. |
