The Tallest Man on Earth – A Lion's Heart Lyrics 12 years ago
Your ego is the palace. Once one gets a glimpse of its actual falsity, it starts to crumble, the mind freaks out and begins searching for answers, the truth. And not just facts, but TRUTH. One goes through all kinds of mental gymnastics, maybe searching the worlds wisest teaching and words. These words can never express the TRUTH, what you really are; they can only point to TRUTH, but it cannot be known, IT must be REALIZED.

One senses signs of this truth in many places as the mind and its memory are slowly let go of as the central determiner and position in this amazing universe. Falling apart is one of the bravest things in the world to do, but everyone will tell you to "hold it together man". But by falling apart we become to see what we really are. There's a Peace at the core, the very core. Until then, the search will take you further and further until,,,,,your done.

Certain teachings can point to it, but "the boy" must find out for itself what IT actually IS.

The Tallest Man on Earth – Like the Wheel Lyrics 12 years ago
The human mind is not designed to be content. It is constantly seeking. A baby seeks and cries for its mother's milk, a child seeks approval of ones elders and experience a "separate" place in the world, an adolescent starts to stir, expand and seeks approval of friends and excitement in the world, and as an adult we go on seeking fortune, fame, a constant sense of satisfaction, etc etc.

But the world, for some reason, does not provide that sense of contenment. Life and "our" place in it keeps rolling and coming back around full circle to that sense of "something is missing", one needs "something else" to make them happy. Even the judgments are nothing but crude attempts to hide from ourselves the growing discontent inside. All of this based on an incomplete knowledge (tree). It makes one question one's existence, as in the question "What am I?", or "Why am I here?" The seeking for the answer to life's eternal question will eventually bring one to their knees, and beg for an answer. Slwoing down, paying attention to what is actually going on (not outside, but within) in one's reactions to the world, will begin to unfold a deeper sense of existence, the truth of not "who", but WHAT you really are. This is a common theme in his songs.

Fear not. It is just life waking you up from your hallowed dream. What you think you are and the body will die, but You are eternal. Nature, with all of its beauty, cycles, perfect patterns of expression, and sheer destructive forces is a beautiful window through which to discover this deep sense of existence, but the ego doth protest. It always wants more.

The Tallest Man on Earth – Love Is All Lyrics 12 years ago
As is often the case, his lyrics are meant to send the listener into the seemingly contradictory world of paradox. But, the fact is, paradox can only exist in the mind, the world of delusion and duality.

The stillness refers to rising above that world of thoughts which are only impressions held in the mind as memory, usually unconsciously categorized as good/bad, pleasure/pain, etc.

The character, ones ego, thinks it knows what "love" is, but only by rising above that personal point of view can one see what is actually going on. One can see that they don't actually exist as a separate person, but more like a Oneness experiencing itself through various personal points of views, making up the play of life as we "know" it. In fact, one's "self" is someNOTHING more than an arbitrary sense of existence in an eternal flow of consciousness. Beautiful stuff really, but not so much for an ego who is determined to exist, based on on its importance, sense of fear, and constant needs to fulfill desires and avoid pain. Brilliant Stillness. What I, You, It actually IS, and everything from life to death is happening within IT.

The Tallest Man on Earth – Burden of Tomorrow Lyrics 12 years ago
It's about putting ego, that which you think you are, but aren't, into its place. When you enter into the dream of consensual reality, you must don a character, like in a play. But it is secondary only, not the truth of what you actually are.

What you really are, prior to thought, has been HERE forever and will be here forever more. Thus,

< I just walked in one frosty morn.
Into the vision of some vacant mind.>>

And can hold ponies, melt icebergs, etc through the play of the universe,,,what you are creating. Even the thoughts are creations, but not the creator, which is you.

Built to Spill – Nowhere Lullaby Lyrics 14 years ago
To understand what BTS lyrics often "point to", often it helps to think about things from a "non-dual" perspective and/or see words as describing, what I feel, is probably the writers' own journey into that realization. Yes, life in general and DEEPLY so, as well as very impersonally so.....a BEAUTIFUL thing.
