It's not the greatest love story but hey, it's pretty inspirational for those of us who are in the same place as Billy or Tweedy were. And that's a very large number of people. |

Brilliant explanation. I completely agree with you on the notion that Brock's lyrics transcend poetry, and all the usual talk about his brilliance. It's all very relatable. |

Thank you, but I don't think I get the latter part of your comment ("....exposes the whole 'prop' comment as the lie it is"). I'm probably just overlooking something else in this thread and I'll feel all silly when I see it, but would you mind explaining? |

Well as it was discussed earlier (seven years ago) Casanova (Giacomo Casanova) was a lady's man, and calling him ugly is something of a confusing statement. Casanova is a term used synonymously with womanizer, someone who leads women into relationships under the guise of being a caring, loving person when in reality, he is only in it for the gratification of being with the woman. So basically someone with underlying self issues manipulating women for self-validation, even if it's inadvertent.
The realization that you are like this when your intentions seemed purer is destructive and confusing; it's a good place to come clean, but it's hard to wash off the muck you can't find.
I have to go ahead and say this is just one way to look at it, and that I'm being reflexive of myself here. These lyrics are very abstract but, basing it off of my experience, seem to be written on an impulse of some self-defeating revelation about himself. |
