I mostly agree with the previous comments, however to me this song is about having cheated, and not being able to tell your person that you did, because you don’t want to lose him/ her, and that person becoming utterly disappointed in you. "You are the hole in my head. You are the space in my bed. You are the silence in between What I thought and what I said” She misses him, only a space in her mind and her bed where he used to be, because there is “no light” of love in his eyes for her anymore, but disappointment. Because he has asked “what is wrong?” And she thinks “I cheated on you and I’m sorry” but says, “Everything is fine”. And in this silence between thought and word, he is, the man she cheated on, but does not want to lose him as well, because he means so much to her that she can’t let go, and he suspects it. "You want a revelation. You want to get right. But it's a conversation I just can't have tonight," And so he keeps asking what is wrong to make certain, to see if it is something other than cheating, to see if desperately he did something wrong on his own and he can make it right, hoping, because he still wants to believe in her and love her, but she “doesn’t want to have this conversation”. And in this answer, he becomes bitterly certain, and the light of love and trust in his eyes for her goes out. “Would you leave me, If I told you what I've done? And would you leave me, If I told you what I've become” means this, “would you leave me if I told you I went with someone else, I’ve become a betrayer? I still don’t want to lose you from my life” and “I’d do anything to make you stay, so tell me what you want me to say” means “to somehow explain it to you so that you stay, because I can’t choose what stays or fades away, I can’t erase what I did last night, but if I could choose to, I would” I also based it on the video clip, since at the ending, another man is shown to hug and kiss her, to the suffering of the voodoo man (the cheated on) |
