Arcade Fire – Wasted Hours Lyrics 12 years ago
Honestly I think this song is just about that feeling of listlessness and sense of waste before you even now where you're heading, what you want to do, etc. You're drifting without any purpose in life or desire to truly do anything. To be honest when I first really looked at the lyrics of this song, I thought of the years of school from grade K-12.

The references to the kids in buses remind me of not wanting to go to school, doing something in my opinion is pretty useless, wishing I was free to do other things.
The lyric "wasted hours, before we knew / where to go, and what to do" makes me think of how all these years of schooling can still be a waste because all of this standardized education is supposed to build up into some career turning you into a functioning member of society and it culminates so quickly, and they expect so much out of you so quickly, but this is all BEFORE you even have the slightest clue what you want to do with yourself. This also ties in to the part where they are talking about building the road before you built the town, because they tell you what to do/where to go without ever really knowing if you want to go that way first.

"Wasted hours that you make new and turn into a life that we can live" I'm not really sure about the first part of that lyric but I just feel like the second part is basically talking about how these "wasted hours" are all in an effort to get you to get a life and a career and become part of society.

When they talk about "endless suburbs stretched out thin and dead" that again reinforces my thoughts of the monotony and unimaginative-ness of school and the uniformity of suburbs that don't really encourage true passion and uniqueness.

"You watch the life you're living disappear" makes me think of how you spend all this time in school in hopes to have some what of a successful career but its not really something you really want and love to do, and you watch your life get wasted because of what other people tell you is that right path in life.

Maybe that interpretation is just a manifestation of stress seeing as I'm a senior in high school this year, but I just see it as this feeling of no purpose and annoyance that you waste so much time doing things that don't really truly matter and you do them out of obligation and without desire or motivation and you don't really have any sense of purpose or sense of self.

Regina Spektor – Laughing With Lyrics 12 years ago
I really don't think Regina is taking a side on whether or not you should be with God or against God. When she says God can be funny, she doesn't mean God himself, but she means religion can be funny. Religion is funny in this twisted dark sort of way in that it can spark such ridiculous notions, advertisements, beliefs and hatred in people. That's why God is funny, because the very notion of him has sparked so many other beliefs in his name.

However, in her verses, she's also talking about how no one laughs at God when they face some terror that is bigger than them. I myself am non-religious (not really sure if I'm an atheist...) but there have been certain times in which something unspeakably horrible has happened and as a human, it is comforting to know that MAYBE there is some higher being out there bigger than life, bigger than any of us, who has the power to change everything and to overcome your fear of anything.

She's talking about the two way relationship some/many people have with God, the fact that God can inspire such utter ridiculousness that organized religion is honestly almost not even worth it, but also the fact that how in the face of something terrifying, the notion of God does not seem silly at all, because as humans, we all want to know there is something out there that can overcome every terror we ever face.

Florence + the Machine – Cosmic Love Lyrics 13 years ago
I totally agree! I also think when she says "I stayed in the darkness with you" not only is it just like they are together, but they are going to figure out everything and get through the confusion of their feelings together by staying in the darkness.

Florence + the Machine – Only If for a Night Lyrics 13 years ago
I know this song is about Florence's grandma, but the reason I love this song is because for me, personally, I think this song is not just about the dead. This song is about anyone you have ever loved and missed, and the longing to be with them once more, only if for night. I mean that's basically the gist of the song anyways, but everyone knows it's written for Florence's grandma.

Love this song so much <3

Arcade Fire – Modern Man Lyrics 13 years ago
To me, I felt like this song was more just about how the modern man is always rushing and is wasting their life on things that they don't understand or don't matter. When he says "like a record that is skipping" and also "the clock keeps ticking," it made me feel like he was saying that we're so rushed and skipping over the good parts and flying by and the clock keeps ticking, giving us that sense of pressure that we have to hurry even more.
And it doesn't feel right because there isn't really anything concrete to give your life a purpose, you're just following a clock and doing your day to day schedule by this concept of time and productivity.
When I think of the line "in a line for a number, but you don't understand," it makes me think of waiting in line for a paycheck. I mean, you know you're in line for a paycheck to pay for your life, but you don't even really understand what the purpose of your dead end job is for, you don't even understand why you are doing this.

This is really just my take on the song, at least that's how I am able to relate to it.

Marina and the Diamonds – Bad Kidz Lyrics 13 years ago
i feel like this song is trying and then not caring about being accepted by people who should accept you no matter what.
like you do something or are something that isn't accepted by them and you're waiting futilely for them to call you and tell you it doesn't matter, that they accept you for who you are. However, then Marina realizes that this is stupid because she shouldn't need to grovel for someone's praise and love and acceptance when they should've accepted her from the get go. So she's saying "It's not me that broke your heart" implying that that person chose to make a big deal about it that would ruin their relationship.

Alex Turner – Stuck On The Puzzle (Full Version) Lyrics 13 years ago
I don't think that this girl is extremely beautiful, but I also don't think this girl is someone nobody likes.

I really think what I concentrated on was him talking about her magnetism. He doesn't talk about her beauty, or flawlessness or anything. She is simply magnetic and draws him to her. He isn't a romantic fool, but she draws him in and almost turns him into one. And she just has that quality, and it's no use for him to try and avoid it. She's interesting.

I absolutely love this song. In my head I really just liken it to when you like someone and you have NO IDEA WHY. I mean you kind of do, but not really, you're just drawn to that person. No matter if people say they are trouble or it's no use to like them. You just can't escape it. It's irritating.

Lana Del Rey – Never Let Me Go Lyrics 13 years ago
I agree with you 100% but just to add on I feel like its very optimistic. It's got that very carefree vibe like basically "as long as we have each other we'll always be okay." She's saying its just almost this young, spontaneous innocent love. There are games and teasing involved a little, but that's kind of normal for young relationships, they beat around the bush. It's just very romanticized

Marina and the Diamonds – Hermit the Frog Lyrics 13 years ago
i feel like this song is about how she likes a guy who is basically just a scumbag. like she's talking about his double standards and asking him if he found a bitch in her. but she's also saying that the devil likes to make her heart a double bed, so like her and the guy. and also she always is mentioning the devil so its like she knows that hes a horrible person but some evil force is compelling her to like him despite his not-so-redeeming qualities. and "glass balloon" is really just her heart.

thats what i think anyways... i'm no good at this analyzing stuff :(

Ed Sheeran – The A Team Lyrics 13 years ago
i know what this song is about but at the same time i think the other general meaning is kind of just like talking about hitting you're lowest point and not knowing what to do and being overwhelmed by life. that's just what this song screams to me, although i know what it really means.

Lana Del Rey – National Anthem Lyrics 13 years ago
I didn't really get the whole meaning but to me, a lot of the song is revolved around money, wealth, and power. Not only that, but just like this idyllic kind of life. The image of a perfect family, a perfect life. I agree with yhtrownu about the whole she wants to be his national anthem part because money is the anthem of success, so she wants to mean the world to him. But after seeing the music video, I kinda also concluded that it's not just about the excessive life really, she sees this man, and he is everything; fascinating, intelligent, charming. And it's not that he doesn't love her, but it's not exactly the healthiest relationship. She defers to him, he brings to her all this glamour. In the music video, she's a loving mother, but when she's not with her kids, you can see that she can sense that her life isn't all that it's cracked up to be, especially when she is singing "Dark and lonely, I need somebody to hold me." and when she is saying "he will do very well, I can tell, I can tell" It's because she can acknowledge that this man is extraordinary. I also got the sense that, she feels that no matter how much this man may love her, or how glamorous their life is, he's always being held back from his full potential, not by her per se, but just in general. His heart isn't wholly in their relationship. And when she asks "Want a quick, sick rampage?" I feel like this means that their love, it's not really lasting or healthy, but it's explosive and energetic, and the kind of love that burns brighter than any flame but then burns out, and it burns both of them out, because its so all-consuming and glamorous. I really don't know what i'm talking about, because I haven't really pieced together what I think it REALLY means, but this is what I've gotten so far...

Jessie J – Nobody's Perfect Lyrics 14 years ago
Even though I think the lyrics are kind of simple they are straightforward and honest and the fact that she has a great voice makes this song great.

Personally, I think this is applied to anyone that she loves and that she is saying she has a nervous babbling tendency and therefore doesn't think before she speaks. She betrays someone's trust because she told other people what should've been just between them, whether it was a fight they had and she was badmouthing that person, or if it was a secret they shared and she told the whole world. This song also isn't just directed to that one mistake of talking when your not supposed to, its basically for anytime you make a mistake that you know hurt someone that you loved, and you know they are disappointed in you.

She's saying that she knows she made a mistake, and that the fact that the person is disappointed in her is eating her from the inside out. She regrets her mistake and if it means continuing to have that person in her life and being in that person's life she's willing to change because she knows that its a harmful tendency and that the person she loves is more important than anything.

I just had one of these kind of situations in my life so this really relates to me right now.
