| I think most people will be able to relate to one of the stories related in the verses. I can totally identify with the first one, where one person in a relationship feels inferior and trapped because they know they should leave but can't face being without the other person and letting go, so they regret the entire experience. Whichever part of the song you see yourself in, the chorus brings everyone together and reminds us that we are not defined by our losses/failings, and that we have a lot more to offer and to live for. Definitely a message worth remembering when you're feeling low. Songs like this make you feel much less alone in whatever you're going through. When I listen to it, I remember the pain but also that something positive can and will grow out of it. I always feel like Gary is singing directly to me, and that's totally comforting. It's a very universal and yet personal song. Beautiful. | |
