I think this about how being a "religious" and "good" Christian won't gain your salvation. The only way you can truly be saved is by believing that Jesus died to save your soul from eternal separation and damnation and by following Him. You can do all the things that a "true" Christian is supposed to do, but if you haven't changed to follow Christ, that means nothing. Faith is found in Christ alone, not religion.

I think this song is about how the singer was inspired by some religious leader, like one of those televangelists, but then came to find out that he was a fake and didn't serve God at all. Then he warns him that Hell awaits him if he doesn't truly live for God.

I think the "gods" he's talking about in this song don't have to be literal, they're metaphors for hate, hedonism, and such. Phil's talking about how our society is taught to hate Christians through bending misunderstanding of us and giving very bad examples of what "Christianity" is. (Westboro Baptist Church, anyone?) Here he's fed up with how down the drain our society is, with our glorifying sex over love, murdering people so much that even middle schoolers are doing it, and whatnot. He's saying we need to turn around before the flames consume the world in the end.
