Ween – Friends Lyrics 12 years ago
This is purely my opinion of what the song means to me as a member of the musical community, I in no way assume that this is what Ween was thinking while they were writing the lyrics to this song.
This song creates an idea that perhaps dreams are not as sparse and meaningless as some may think, and that reality is the greatest pretender of all. The verses describe the dream; a beautiful landscape that was only perceived once in a beautiful moment of serenity with the people he loves. The chorus, while a parody of techno overuse of the friendship theme, is also connected to the absurdity of life itself, trying to chase after meaningless things like money and success while putting up the front that everything is going well and as expected. The last lick is the man saying that maybe someday, he will find this feeling and place in reality if he looks and tries hard enough.

Modest Mouse – Dashboard Lyrics 14 years ago
This song is ultimately about everyday life, its monotony, and life from the average man's perspective.

Picture the car mentioned as a person's life.

"Well, the dashboard melted but we still have the radio." Neither the dashboard or the radio are necessary to run the car, but when this guy looks at a melting dashboard in front of himself his first reaction is, "Holy $^#&, the car's gonna blow!" Ultimately, it doesn't, just another unecessary part of the car removed from forces of nature that MAYBE could've been prevented, but he could keep driving. After realization he is still ok, he justifies it with focusing on another unecessary component; the radio. Although not important, his lifelong car trip would SUCK if he didn't have his radio, which for the listener could represent their passion, whatever it might be.
