Gillian Welch – I Dream A Highway Lyrics 14 years ago
so awesome. it's one of the only verses to have four lines (instead of three) before returning to the refrain, 'I dream a highway back to you.' so the extra line embodies the wheel within a wheel, the within a call - this presence, this apparition.

Gillian Welch – I Dream A Highway Lyrics 14 years ago
"in the blue display of the cool cathode ray / i dream a highway back to you"

A cathode ray tube produces images on fluorescent television screens and computer monitors. The word "cathode" comes from the Greek "kathodos", from kata - 'down' + hodos 'way.'

19th century scientist tried to use language to standardize engineering, so current would move East to West, as the sun appears to move in the sky.

Scientist was wrong: 'as we now know, the Earth's magnetic field direction on which the "cathode" term is based is subject to reversals.'

Ex-lover in the West and I'm back here (in Montreal)! Irrevocable reversals despite best efforts and carefully chosen words.

Just reading lyrics to sad songs on the internet (at twilight), dreaming a cathode ray back to you.

PS, I know nothing about electric engineering and physics, to help demystify see: http://wiki.answers.com/Q/What_is_Kathodos
