I heard Amy said this song is about her relashionship with the fans, she's kind of apologizing for having made them wait for so long for a new album, and if you take a look at the lyrics, this makes sense. In I've been believing In something so distant As if I was human And I've been denying This feeling of hopelessness In me, in me The reason why fans love Evanescence is because the songs are about pain, frustration, hopelesness... but it's like she gave up on these feelings and has accepted to be happy, but that at the same time makes her distant from her fans, because they loved her because of her pain. All the promises I've made Just to let you down You believed in me But I'm broken In this part she's kind of apologizing to her fans. She "promised" she would make sad songs, but she spent a long time without giving the fans songs, and the fans believed she would write songs about their suffering, but she didn't. I have nothing left And all I feel is this cruel Wanting We've been falling for all this time And now, I'm lost in paradise I think she's saying here that she lost her inspiration, that she has nothing to write about because now she's happy, at the same time she feels kinda bad about it because she can't write songs about misery for her fans. She's lost in paradise because she's happy, but at the same time it's sad because she can't write beautiful sad songs. As much as I'd like The past not to exist It still does And as much as I'd like To feel like I belong here I'm just as scared as you Here I think she's kinda talking about the old band, she wanted the band's past not to exist maybe so she didn't have the pressure to outdo herself musically, but the past still does. And as much as she wants to feel that she's good enough to make good music, she's insecure like "what if the music I make now is bad?". Run away, run away One day we won't feel this pain anymore Take it all away Shadows of you 'Cause they won't let me go Here is like she's saying to the fans to let go of the pain that she and they share, and that she has to accept to be happy so she can move on, even if it can put her musical creativity and her art commitment at stake. |
