good to know im not the only one who heres someone singing about suicide with this song I saw the comments saying its about a 1 night stand and was like 0.o whhaaaa? I really just cant see how the lyrics could point to sex No one leaves their body during a one night stand... in fact i cannot think of anything where you would be so connected with your physical self than during sex And the way she says the line "im gonna leave my body" it sounds like a threat to everyone around her but also like a resolution to herself, which is im sure how it feels when someone decides on suicide. Especially with the bit about "moving up to higher ground" seems like a pretty obvious allusion to going up to heaven to me. Ad the bit about loosing blood, leaving her bones, about how history keeps pulling me down... seems pretty obvious to me she's plagued by memories of the past and feels like there will be no escape from it until she is dead. |

You pretty much hit the nail on the head. I already knew about Flo's gran committing suicide before I heard this song but since I didnt know she was in school when it happened I assumed that she was singing about a childhood friend from her school who had died. Especially since thats what makes this song so relatable to me personally. I heard the line "She was all pink and gold and glittering" and immediately remembered my late childhood best friend in her princess costume. The sadness and relatability of this song gives it a kind of weight that makes its beauty even more profound. God bless Florence, her song's are a gift to humanity <3 |
