I agree with all of the comments here. When I hear that Van's lady is the Queen of the Slipstream it brings to mind a bit of a star crossed relationship. She has come a very long way, and left a good life to be with him, only to find he must leave... So as he travels far across the sea, his lady is always on his mind, but yet so far away. As he flies, in a plane or metaphorically, she is always close, but yet behind. The circumstances of their life conspire to pull them apart and he can only dream of her, because she is behind him, once again, in the slipstream. Classic. Bittersweet. Irish. Just like the history of Ireland itself. |
