I think that is pretty spot on. That's exactly the feeling I get out of the song as well. Could just be because that's my situation, but it's quite fitting! |

Maybe it's just because of what i'm going through right now, but to me this song is about longing for something or someone who's forbidden for whatever reason, or you know isn't good for you. The "big ideas" are the fantasies you have about it eventually working out, when it probably never will. Perhaps you are in a relationship that you are very unsure about and you know something is missing but you feel stuck, and someone special comes along who represents a new beginning and a different path, and for a short time you become vulnerable and begin to fall for them, but for some reason you don't follow through. You found what was missing, but you let it go, and you felt something real, but now it's gone. The "hell" represents a personal hell, or guilt for your true desires, as well as the hell of not being honest with yourself about what you really want. Now you go back to your old life and "paint yourself white" trying to pretend things are normal, and "fill up with noise" and try to distract yourself from the reality of your unhappiness, but there will still be something missing. |
