The Jackson 5 – Heartbreak Hotel Lyrics 13 years ago
I think this is one of the first masterpieces MJ released. It had that hook that would pull you into the song and those strong vocals that were his. It was catchy, but still had musicality to it. It had that atmosphere to it and although the lyrics could be cheesy in my opinion, there's such conviction in his voice you believe in the song.

Seeing as I'm a younger fan, it was interesting going back in time to see how MJ developed with his dancing and songwriting and general musicianship.

The Jackson 5 – Bless His Soul Lyrics 13 years ago
I don't recall if MJ and his bros wrote this one, but the lyrics appear to be very autobiographical. My favorite part is when Michael starts singing the line, "The life you're living is dangerous..." and on. It's ironic how he predicted his own future problem of being estranged from others because of his lifestyle and quite sad. Then again, if it was written by someone else, it's doubly ironic.

Definitely. When an artist or group starts writing their own songs it really shows more of their artistry and skill.

The Jackson 5 – Everybody Lyrics 13 years ago
Nice catchy song that isn't too catchy to the point of musical "discredibility". With how catchy it is I never mind the length of the song.

The lyrics are interesting. They seem autobiographically in terms of how MJ lived his life for his career at such a young age ("I've done my time and I have paid the price") and go along with later paranoid lyrics MJ would write.

The Jackson 5 – Be Not Always Lyrics 13 years ago
I love MJ's later music, his 90s was his prime creatively in my opinion, but I wish he had made more music like this. This might just be my favorite song of his (it changes every hour or day depending on my mood) because of how it moves me with the simplicity of the instrumental and MJ's voice making me feel for what he's talking about.

It's such a deep song lyrically too. "Be not always" can mean so much- it does mean so much.

Love this song.

Three words: Recession Theme Song

I'm not even on my own yet and I can still feel this song. Mark Foster is brilliant lyricist as well as songwriter and musician. His words make such connections with me and I'm sure many other people.

Michael Jackson – Speechless Lyrics 14 years ago
EDIT: There's many reasons MJ is my favorite *artist*, but a very big reason is his ability to put the complete essence of emotion in a song. To me, this song is Love in its fullest. It can be romantic love, friend love, family love, but in the end it's simply Love. I just love (lol, using that word a ton) how this song just gets that essence soo well.

Foster the People – I Would Do Anything for You Lyrics 14 years ago
I actually took this one to be simply a really sweet song, with too much romanticism seeing as he'd do anything for her, but no real dark meaning. Reading your interpretation hits too close to home. Why is it that all the happy stuff when twisted can be so disturbing? Lol. I love Foster the People for their amazingly dark lyrics, they're my favorite lyrics though... what does that say about me as a person? :P

Ah well, my sister already always tell me I'm a cynical pessimist and I just can't help myself sometimes- the glass just looks half empty to me.

That's what my mother thought and I was like :P 'cause it ruined the meaning of the song and like the deeper meanings Foster the People have in their songs.

Foster the People – Call It What You Want Lyrics 14 years ago
@Johndrive1 Nice interpretation. There are a lot of interpretations that I think the video has.

The one you just wrote about goes hand in hand with my primary interpretation of it: Fame isn't what Foster the People is about, they won't be your stereotypical spotlight addicts. Your interpretation is showing what fame can do to you.

My interpretation their rebellion against the fame stereotype. When that business man is there, Mark Foster is singing about enemies meaning the band isn't about money. They won't let the industry control them or they know they can't let that happen. The shooting of the fans is also apart of this and where I disagree with you. I don't think that has to do with violence due to fame because he's actually rebelling against the fame stereotype with this action. He's basically saying that he won't let such fanatic fans or groupies get to his head.

The burning of the instruments and music equipment I think represents how they'll break away from the industry if they can't be themselves.

I also feel like the star scene is them controlling their destinies.

Lastly this is apparently set in the same place of the scene where Lady Gaga falls of a balcony in her Paparazzi video supporting the theme of fame's dark side.

You're description really added to it. Good thinking.

Michael Jackson – Who Is It Lyrics 14 years ago
This is an interpretation someone else came up with, I loved it and when you watch the real video (the one on VEVO is not real, for some reason they won't upload the brilliant original) you can see the connections.

While this interpretation isn't mine, I'll try and sum it up the best I can:

In many of MJ's songs, he makes you feel whatever the mood of the song is. It's obviously about loneliness, which MJ knows a lot about with how he was alienated from normal people and never had a normal life. The other theme present is lack of trust. MJ repeatedly asks "who is it?" that stole his love away. But more on that later.

First of all, instead of actually being a lover, the woman is anyone in life. They have left him in pieces as he now has to ponder why she left, which is vocalized in his who is it?s. The line "the will has brought no fortune" is how he invested so much in life and yet nothing good has come of it.

Relating to the video, there is a mask in the wall watching the girl's actions. It symbolizes the mask people wear. Later the girl is being all dolled up by her people- this is more about the symbolization of the mask of life people wear. This adds another layer to the symbolization of the line "who is it?" MJ is basically asking who is he really dealing with. Are the people in his life being truthful to him?

Maybe my explanation isn't very clear, but I'll post the real interpretation, which is quite long, some day. But yeah, I loved this interpretation. It went so deep and the proof in the song and video to support it.

Overall, this song is one of the reasons MJ is my favorite musical artist. His voice, the mood, the beat, the melody, and the pure epicness are just a few ways to describe my love of this song.

Michael Jackson – Scared of the Moon Lyrics 14 years ago
This song is one of those songs that have a different sound from what the intent of the lyrics is. It sounds like a beautiful lullaby, which connects to the childhood to adulthood story going on, but contrasts darkly with the theme of terror mixed in.

I either thought this was about a child who is delusional and isn't diagnosed until they are older, thus the group counseling, MJ says that directly, "Their lunacy shared". The moon is associated with lunacy, which is why she is "Scared of the moon"... or it could be about a child who is abused. The fear of the moon is because she is abused at night. The meaning of lunacy fits better, but it's always open because unfortunately MJ never gave a clear meaning to the majority of his music.

Really brilliantly written in my opinion.
