@[chrisrazor:36171] I don’t think this song is dealing with a parent-child relationship. It’s about close-knit siblings and one of them deciding to leave the family and run off to a different city/state be with a guy. It may actually be autobiographical, written by Maggie Roche about Terre Roche (I would need to fact check that but I seem to recall). If taken generally it’s about siblings growing up and breaking apart. |

I read in an interview once that the two current members of Chairlift (Caroline and Patrick) are both Geminis so my theory is that this is at least partially about former third member Aaron leaving the band. There is an article somewhere talking about how the fact that he was Scorpio and they were Geminis created kind of a weird dynamic as a three-piece. "You lost your focus" could be referring to that, as could "You are infinitely invited," like saying he could come back if he wants but that he would have to "leave alone the geminis" dynamic if he did. The second half gets more out there though, and I have no guess. Just my theory, could be totally off. |
