Subway To Sally – Kleid aus Rosen Lyrics 14 years ago
Sometimes a tattoo is just a tattoo... I would take it as a symbol for rape. There is absolutely no prove for that point. Bodenski is not a fan of telling people his interpretation of the lyrics because people tend to belive any other point of view is wrong. Some people even interpret the girl killed herself at the end when she was standing lonely near the water. Though even Bodenski said she was just supposed to stand there lonely.
Here is what I belive the song is about:

The song is basically just about growing up (as I later found out this was once even vertified by Bodenski even though I cant tell you where he said that) and starting to make your own choices. So the girl choses not to do what her parents tell her to do anymore and runs away. She gets to the stranger who prints tattoos. She asks him to give to get her roses as a tattoo. In the past tattoos often ended up in a person dieing because they bleeded a lot so the stranger didnt wanted to do it even though he was a "Meister" in this art. But as the girl kept asking him to do it he couldnt resist anymore and did it. At this point I'd like to point out that I do see the hint for the sexual intercourse and it might be true and so she MIGHT have offered him to sleep with him so he couldnt resist her bidding any more. By trying this she gets the roses (something she wants) but also learns there always is a price to pay in life. The "unkown pain". It isnt neccesaryly a realy pain but maybe something more like the pain of loosing your childly innocence (not sexually (at least not primary) but more like the uncareing type of innocence). She realizes how hard live can be but also realizes she is unable to go back. So she feels a bit lonely "standing lonely near the waters". The prize for making your own decicions always is your innocence. The Meister might reasemmble something the possibility to design your own live more than just the ordinary guy who does tattoos. Its like saying: Ok, you get to chose what you do in your live but there is a price. Your inncence (once again you can take it sexually though, for reasons of neutrality I do prefer not taking that part into account).

Oomph! – Beim ersten Mal tut's immer Weh Lyrics 14 years ago
Uhm... I'm very shocked by some of these comments...
The video in fact IS about a pedophile person who solicites the girl. She is ok with meeting him but and then torments him. In germany the law says you are not allowed to have sex with ANYBODY under 15 if you are an adult. Until 18 its only allowed when the parents have no good reason to tell their children not to do it and of course if the younger one is ok with it. The girl was made 15 in order to make her not too young (though anything above 10 would be taken by most pedophiles) while still making it illegal.
Its NOT supposed to tell you to be carefull who you are talking to on the net.

Oomph! – Sandman Lyrics 14 years ago
First of all I'd like to correct the translation:

Its not twice:

Dry bread makes cheeks red
The boy lives in great distress
He screams until his lungs are sore
The hunger burns in the child's mouth

The second time its changed into (Translation word by word... Meaning parenthesized):

Dry bread makes cheeks red
But everybody sits in his own boat (German expression for "But everybody has to care about his own problems")
I'll show you whats wealth now
In a country which forgets about its children.

Apart from this the translation is almost perfect.

And for the person of the sandman:
The sandman is a person which is told to throw sand into childrens eyes and gets them their this way.
When the person wakes the sand gets rubbed out of the eyes.
Originally he was used as a bugbear to get children to sleep with horrible storys.
But today he is known as a more kind person who just gets children to sleep and is responsible for nice dreams.
This mythos even made it to a nice serial for little children in the german television. The "Sandmännchen" (diminutive of "Sandmann") is shown in the late evening and travels to some random children. There it "shows" them a story (by manipulating a televisor, a sea or something like that. Its something magical after all ;). This is to represent that the Sandmännchen brings us our dreams) and afterwards grabs into its bag where it stores its sand and throws it at the children which get very tired afterwards and start to sleep. The Sandmännchen checks wether they all are ok finally leaves the same way he appeared.
This most likely is the version the sandman of the song is supposed to be. The sandman gets asked to make the narrator to sleep so he doesnt has to watch all this pain anymore.

The song basicly is supposed to imply at first glance that there were lots of poor people after the world war 1 and during the economic crisis in the decades after it. People are supposed to belive they understand that the song implies how bad it was back then. But when you see the message about the poor children in 2009 you get to realize there still are Millions of poor people even in germany. The country where you live. A quite well developed country.
So unfortunately I do have to disagre with yayitsari: Its exactly about that kind of pooverty.

Joschy
