This song, I've heard it a few times before but I never actually listened to it until a couple of days ago as I was leaving my school. I was walking through the parking lot when it came on and I heard it, and I actually listened to it, and I was overcome by so many thoughts. It seems to be about that crowd of people that just do things, that just go through the motions and get into what's trendy without any motivation or inclination towards it. They just do it. It's lack of passion, and I see it every day, hell I've been a part of it before and that's the scary thing. The line, "there ain't no romance around there" hits me because I'm still stuck "there" in this school with all these ignorant fucks who walk around trying to be trendy as if that's that matters in life, when there's so much more. I want to have something meaningful in my life, and that's something they'd laugh at. This song really connects with me. |

I love how people are trying so hard to label what is and isn't punk, this completely undermining what punk is meant to be: raw, rebellious, expression and fighting a system you don't believe in, and doing your own thing no matter what others say. Green Day is rebellious. American Idiot was about how wrong our system is. A lot of people say American Idiot is when they became alt rock, but I disagree. American Idiot was not my favorite album but it was very much punk. It was an album that not only took shots at our screwed up system, but also expressed the story of suburbian kids that most of us can relate to in someway. And their early albums were all about growing up, adolescence, angst, and learning to be yourself. |

This song is obviously just about living life and realizing that life's too short to mess around. Billie said when they played the song that it's about being alive. This song gets me psyched about their next album, I can't wait to hear their other new songs! |
