| Dark Moor – The Sound Of The Blade Lyrics | 11 years ago |

Dark Moor songs often reference specific historical characters, fictional characters, artists, artistic creations, etc. This might be the case for this song; if it is, I don't know what the reference is. However, even if there is a reference I'm missing, the song meaning is still pretty obvious. It's about a soldier (a knight) who can't believe all of the death and bloodshed for which he is responsible, and who can't recognize himself anymore or rejoice in his "victory", all he can think about is all the dead. Perhaps the song could be linked to PTSD as well, though it doesn't seem as likely given PTSD isn't usually associated with medieval knights. "Lowering clouds in the sky aglow Darken my shield of victory Is my fate doomed to hell on earth?" -- This part refers to the knight being unable to rejoice in his victory, and instead thinking that his new existence is like hell on Earth. "A shift in the wind guides me to to home I stare in the mirror now Who is that under my bloody mail?" -- He doesn't recognize himself anymore after all the bloodshed (not physically obviously, but he can't believe what he's done). "I bury my lance and I kneel on this field I rend the air with my old sword I commend my soul to God" -- He's entrusting his soul to God out of desperation. "I'm fatally hurt but not by a knight When I hear the sound of the blade I recall all the blood shed in vain" -- He's hurt by the trauma of the memories of what he did during battle, all the blood he spilled. The sound of a blade (sword) is specifically his trigger which makes him remember the living nightmare of the battle. This is why I suggested perhaps the song is at least somewhat about PTSD earlier on; the whole idea of having a trigger like which sends you back to the traumatic memories and "fatally" incapacitates is very reminiscent of PTSD. "Wherever I turn my eyes I only see the lives I shattered and they'll never find the path of the sun Wherever I turn my head I only see the dead I left behind, they'll never find the path of the sun" -- All he can see is all the people he killed, whose lives he ended too early ("who'll never find the path of the sun"). All in all, quite a sad song. |

Also, these are the correct lyrics: At night in the forest of Sabrod A tiger in search of his prey I wonder will we be alive by the dawning of day? Predator of godly creation In hunger he stops at no child Possessed by the fever to follow the call of the wild Take this life When you say, Say goodbye for today It's a tiger of Sabrod And he's fighting from the heart Will you return? Tiger of Sabrod Oh - Tiger of Sabrod The eyes of the tiger are close now And lifeless he lies in the mud Don't trust in your triumph and glory Revenge will bring blood At night he will rise from the dead ones And then he will search you all night and day The wolf will still live on tomorrow - Survivors will pay! Take this life When you say, Say goodbye for today It's a tiger of Sabrod And he's fighting from the heart Will you return? Tiger of Sabrod Oh - Tiger of Sabrod |

This song is inspired by a local story from a German village called "Sabrodt" (in German, the name of the story is "Tiger von Sabrodt"). Basically, in 1904, the last German wolf was shot in Sabrodt. The wolf in question was a very large one (1.60 meters length, 80 cm withers and a live weight of 41 kg). It was apparently very agile, able to evade capture from its hunters 18 times, until finally being killed, and the contractors receiving 100 marks as head money. The wolf was being hunted because it attacked cattle and supposedly angered and/or scared the population. After its death, the wolf was put on display and attracted more than 500 visitors. The term "Tiger" comes from the fact that at least one person assumed the wolf was a tiger who escaped a circus, given how long it had been since the last wolf sighting. |
