Anyone have any ideas what this song is actually about? I've heard a suggestion once somewhere that it alludes to the racism that Jaz faced in his childhood, like the sarcasm in the 'color scheme' line. That sounds kind of plausible, but I'm still not sure. I've also heard it was about a housewife commenting on a mushroom cloud(?) i can't really decipher it myself |

Actually, 'Pandy' is Jaz Coleman's mothers maiden name. It means 'pandit' which is a Hindu Brahmin scholar. I do believe it does have something to do with the British occupancy in India (before the uprising?) perhaps. Here's Jaz's commentary on the song: "The title The Pandys Are Coming was derived from a song the army of the British Empire sang in India when the 'Pandit' tribe of Hindus invoked 'Kali' before hurtling towards the British to embrace destruction. It represented a totalitarian state of mind representing my own and I also saw no reason why I should not exploit the family name of my Brahmin heritage. The emphasis again was on myself." |
