I have more to add. When I first heard this song, I thought it was "Could it last" instead of "Cut it loose". If it were "Could it last", it would also make sense. Going with the second interpretation I thought of, he's wondering if she can really keep up with what she's doing with her life. He's not trying to mean or anything, rather he's just wanting to know how long it will take her to realize that she doesn't have to alone anymore. But since it's "Cut it loose", I've explained it already but there's more. He wants her to tell him the truth, lay it out on the table, don't hold back...etc. |

I have loved this song since 6 years ago. Overtime, I developed more of meaning for this song or at least I've attached a story to it. There's this couple and their relationship is becomes known and it's forbidden. The guy gets murdered and the girl is left alone. The third person in the song is the enemy. The point of views switch back and forth between the guy and the girl. "The Damage you've inflicted, Temporary Wounds, I'm coming back from the dead, I'll take you home with me, I'm taking back the life you stole" is from the girl's point of view to the enemy. "Do you remember back when we met, you told me this gets harder, Well it did, Been holding on forever, promise me that when i'm gone you'll kill my enemies." Here, the girl is remembering the first she ever met her future love and as their relationship progressed, he asked her to kill his enemies when he's gone. Maybe he knew that his death day was coming soon. In the end, she hopes to reunite with her love. Just this much fits with the story. The other lines I didn't specify didn't really fit. |

I haven't thought about this song in years. I used to listen to it all the time. At first I thought this song was about a relationship with a bf/gf, but the more I listened to it, the more I thought it was about joel's father. It kind of seems like it in a way. Predictable brings back so many memories. Back when music was generally better. |

Why did no one attempt to give a meaning for this song? It is called song meanings. Anyway, it sounds like it's about faling for someone and doing something about it. Maybe the main character swore never to fall in love and those are kind of people who end up falling hard for someone. That's my take on it. |

I've listened to this song numerous of times and I think it a guy talking to a girl. This way made the most sense to me. He falls in love with a girl who's older but she doesn't seem to reciprocate the feelings at all. In my mind, at the end of the scenario, it turns out that she does feel the same way. But because she didn't want to end up hurting him, she left so that nothing bad would happen to him. I always imagined the guy fell in love with a prostitue who happenened to be his father's latest mistress. So it's like that kind of story. Crazy, but it makes sense to me. And his mother found out and left, leaving him heartbroken even though they weren't really close but she never critisized him or anything. Ok, so there are my thoughts. |

I absolutely love this song. I only wish I knew about it earlier. The part "If i gave you my number", it's something along the lines of starting a romantic relationship and "if i saved you from drowning", metaphorically it's something a friend would do for another friend. The question "would it still be the same", could refer to if starting a romantic relationship is the equivalent to saving the same person from anything. This made more sense in my head. |

Ok, I could be wrong but when I first listened to this song, I thought it was about a romantic relationship, either a couple has broken up and one wants to get back togehter or a guy wanting to be with a girl. Here's the first one. The guy has gotten to the point where if he doesn't do anything, he'll fall apart or if he does manage to get together with the girl, then he'll make it in time. Something about his heart beating faster whenever he thinks of her and the realization is there. The second one I like more. The part about "Blood cells pixelate" and "Eyes dilate", I always thought it meant is whenever he sees her, either he's falling in love with her all over again or he realizes that he was always in love in with her. In order to make himself not think about this all the time, he does other things to occupy himself. The "Cut it loose, Watch you work the room" part, I have a feeling it means he sees her from a distance and knows what she's been through and how she's living her life. All he wants to do is help. He loves her alot and wants her to see that. So, that's my take on it. I've also read the other intepretations and they're pretty sound. |
