I kinda disagree with many of of the replies on this website as to the actual meaning of this song. I know it's subjective and many artists respond that you can fit your own meaning to the lyrics if necessary. But as to the meaning I believe the original writer intended is a bit different than some might think. I think it's obvious really. I'll elaborate. " I seen a girl with a guy with hair like yours from what I remember been so long since last december..." "He took her hand and smiled her name her face like yours he smiled the same..." I personally believe that this sets the theme for the song and clues the listener into the likely meaning. I imagine that he may have been walking down a street and saw his girlfriend with another man. He quite possibly questioned whether it was her but simply couldn't deny the resemblance. This leads him onto believe she may be cheating on him. Also I believe that TVOTR are from New York though I may be wrong, but people run into each other quite often in certain areas of NYC. "From what I remember been so long since last december.." This event probably occurred sometime in the past, obviously referenced. He's now reflecting on his memory of this event and as the memory decays he begins to question whether he was right or wrong. In essence "Blind" would refer to the notion that although his girlfriend is probably cheating on him he remains in an ignorant state preferring to remain blind to the possibility in order to preserve the relationship, which is now poisoned by this memory. "I'm still might tiny hoping you'd be my little godsend" Writer is pointing out that his girlfriend isn't who he thought she was. She's a cheater. But still leaves the possibility that she might not be, so he's stuck in this misery of ignorance. "With a guy so who i'd seen so who am I?" Saw her with another guy, questioning the role he plays in a relationship now that he feels he may be second best or possibly she might be using him. "open letter to the legions learing" Referencing all the hordes of men who would willingly destroy a relationship by pursuing a woman who is already in a relationship. He's basically saying this song is a message to these men. "because right now I'll take any and blindly" He'll take any love he can get and willfully remains blind to the questioning of her fidelity. Making him seem kinda pathetic but it's certainly true and can happen to anyone. The repeating line "Because if you save yourself I'll save you all the time" to me is the primary conclusion. Making the point that if the girl redeems herself or confesses to the cheating he'll always take her back. More examples are available within this song, I had a dream about this song last night and I'd always known what it meant but it inspired me to write this meaning when i saw a lot of the responses. I hope I inspire insight into the meaning. Hopefully, you'll see the song in a new light. Perhaps a darker light? |
