My interpretation is that it's about changing who you are and things about you to be successful or liked by others. The definition of appendages is 1.(often with negative or pejorative connotations) A thing that is added or attached to something larger or more important... so this could be like enhancement surgeries or stuff like that. The whole record label thing could apply too, you know if you change your music and "sell out". "We're held as hostages" states that we are prisoners of social and cultural paradigms, and that because the media portrays things a certain way that we must conform to that. |
