this song, as i noticed a lot more of eyedeas songs then people think, has a lot of heroin references in it. in my humble opnion this song is about a girl he likes who he used to do dope with, or maybe she just did dope and he didn't. i think this because of the lyrics. "One last time I'm really hurting Just a little taste to take off the edge" a reference to withdrawl. and especially "Crust and clots at the corners of her mouth Eyes white like yours, But completely different somehow I caught her post dose looking like a ghost Cheeks rosed from the flush of fluid So familiar to us now" its VERY VERY obvious to me, being a former heroin user that this is a reference to someone being high on heroin. you can just tell by someones eyes easy as pie if they're high or not, they're not red like pot, just pin hole pupils and they have a distinct look when they're like that, you can spot it from a mile away, and from the view of someone who doesnt use heroin or opiates you might not notice why they look different, but you know they're totally different.. and OBVIOUSLY, I caught her POST DOSE!!! how much more obvious could it be than "POST DOSE LOOKING LIKE A GHOST"?? then he ads cheeks rosed from the flush of fluid (shooting up) so farmiliar to us now as if he and her shoot up together a lot now. GOD he is genius. and i think as leviathans beach in the grip of their patience is a reference somehow to trying to get off of dope, like he said in the beginning of the song "cuddling our new found freedom of keeping our eyes open without being awake" (obviously being on dope) and "ONE LAST TIME I'M REALLY HURTING, JUST ONE TASTE TO TAKE OFF THE EDGE" this is certainly a reference to being dope-sick, and if you have ever been or know a heroin addict, its always "oh just one last time, im so sick, just once more and that will be the last time i swear", i get that from these lyrics a lot, that is the struggle of wanting to stop, and telling your self you will, but not being able to. even when you dont want to do it anymore, sometimes you do it just not to be sick, you have the leviathan in your grip (acknowlaging what a monster or leviathan heroin is), you dont want the drug to get high anymore you have no desire to use it, but you have to in order to not be dope sick, so when you go use again, even though you dont nessacarily want to, you're driving the ship into the pavement, and crashing down again.... thats just my take on the song though, maybe its about two ignorant lovers who dont use drugs, just they're love to be blind..... either way it was a beautiful mind that wrote this. |

| I think this song is all about compassion for other people. There are a lot of people on this planet starving and suffering, but the whole point is, that if everyone HONESTLY tried to help, it wouldn't be that way, and it doesn't have to be that way. Everyone is connected on this planet, and we need to stop living as individual people, let-a-lone different countries, we are a people, and a planet as a whole, the human species and the human mind is not separate, we are one organism like a group of trees who are separate above ground, but share the same root system beneath the dirt, we are separate because we are all people, but all our brains, all our joy and all our suffering is subconsciously interconnected, and we need to realize that and the sooner we realize this the sooner a lot of the suffering and struggling can end. There are obviously a lot of different messages in Eyedeas music, and this is just one angle of this song, its basically just about being a good compassionate human, REALLY being a good human, for yourself and for honest reasons, the beauty in it, and how being a positive person actually does weather you believe it or not, influences the consciousnesses of the planet as a whole, to "collective planetary consciousness" if you will. The interconnectedness of human minds is just like the atmosphere and the butterfly effect, a butterfly flapping its wings creates a very small change but that change affects everything around it, and so on and so on, and eventually that tiny change turns into something huge. Positive or negative thinking are the same way on the "collective consciousness of human beings as a whole" We are all connected is the message I get the strongest from this song. We are all connected so compassion for our fellow humans is the best thing we can do for ourselves. | |

| Some CORRECT CORRECTIONS!!! I may not have gotten them all, but this is the fast parts at least! The second line is "I'm gonna dance the masquerade like I don't believe in the morning after" and I think "Peeling the tint off my confession" like peeling the tint off the glass..... and at the end "you wont he wont she wont, I gotta do it all again goodbye, you fled, no one ever said, there was any piece of mind in my head, everybody lies and lays in time before they're born again, Wipe my slate clean I wanna skate upon your pretty shiny brand new skin, and holler matrimony-emotions-broken now we know enough about each other everything is shattered" - WOW I hope someone appriceates that because it just took me a long time to figure out HAHA, but I'm glad I did because I think its right!!! | |

"Right now I'm heading home, got sounds of nature volume one in my headphones, and half a bottle of prednisone" and definitely "2 for 1 specials if you order shoulder devils" and I think the last part, I'm not positive but I think the line " Head slow, running out of petrol, but I won't let go of this gas pedal until I'm settled and they finally "WET" me with that sweet blind security so insecure and messy" I think it's "wet" because it kind of sounds like this may be a reference to crying maybe? that's always been my take on it anyways. and to me this song is about the "fuck it" mentality of our generation, and how everyone seems to have to work shit jobs, like gas station clerks and shit, and also how doctors these days seem to have a pill they prescribe for everything. | |

| These might be my favorite lyrics of all time, not favorite song, but favorite lyrics. The song to me means this. That our brain is just like a muscle, and every time we think something, its like doing a work out, or maybe one rep in a work out. when you work out, your muscles get stronger, just like every time we think something, the thought is really just our brain sending signals. for example say when you get really mad the neurons in your brain take path A, and when you don't let things get to you and you're forgiving, the neurons take path B. So if you are always letting things get to you, and getting mad over things, then the neurons are constantly taking path A, its like you're giving the path way to anger in your brain a work out, and as that path gets stronger and stronger, then you're more likely to get mad over things more easily, because the electricity in your brain takes the path of least resistance, and if your always forgiving, and try not to get mad, then you will have a tendency to think like that. Basically the meaning of this song is this. The more you think in a given way, the more prone you are of behaving in whatever way that thinking produces. If you let yourself get mad a lot, then you will be "PRONE" to being an angry person, or naturally inclined to get angry over things. If you try to let things go, and be calm about things then you will be "INCLINED" or "PRONE" to being a more chill person. because those pathways in your brain will be much stronger, so it will be easier, on a pure physical level, for that emotion to be generated. And this is not just for anger, it goes for every thought you can imagine. thats why people say you should always be positive, because then it will eventually be easy, and you can turn yourself into a naturally positive person. YOU create the kind of person you are, If you constantly have to consciously try to think in a certain way, and you do it enough, eventually you wont have to try, it will just be natural for you, so if you practice this, its a way for you to "cut" your own puppet strings. | I never heard anything about it, but I also always had a funny feeling that this song was about the death of a pet, a dog in particular, i think because of the "I'll always remember our COMPANIONSHIP" line, and also the line "I will hold your head while the doctor sticks the needle in" But I agree with CIA420 This whole album is super underrated, but I realized today while I was listening to it, that, to me at least, for what its worth, sounds at least 10 or 15 years ahead of its time, I don't think a lot of people were ready for an album like this. I must admit I am a HUGE Mike Larsen fan, not just eyedea & abilities, and oliver hart, but face candy, carbon carousel, the Mike Larsen solo shit, and Puppy dogs and Icecream, I love it all, this album took a second to grow on me. I always liked it A LOT!, but the more I listened, the more I liked it, and every time I listen to it I still like it more and more and more, the actual album came with a lyric book, and reading that just makes me like and appreciate all the songs even more. Also, whoever did the cover art for this album is a BADASS with water colors to say the least. RIP Eye | |

| The beautiful thing about music, i forget who said it, but I read a quote one time I think it may have been Sage Francis commenting on "Makeshift Patriot" he said, "the beautiful thing about music, is that everyone can interpret it in their own way, sometimes it wont be the way that you intended, but that doesn't make it wrong, sometimes a fan will tell me THEIR take on one of my songs, and it will be an angel or way of looking at the song that I myself had never thought of, and I'll be like "that's cool, I never looked at it like that before", and then they will have enlightened me on my own song strangely enough"!!! and I think that's that Absolute Most BEAUTIFUL thing about music, 1 song can have 100 different meanings for 100 different people, and they're ALL RIGHT! this song is about addiction, to love, and drugs. I think Love and Drugs at the same time, by that I mean, Being in a relationship, and on drugs at the same time" you could even go so far as to say that there is only one person in this song, and the other person is a drug. "he needs that feeling he cant create all on his own" "conditioned and dependent" But I also think that when I write a song at least, there is never only one thought that is going through my mind, that's the beautiful thing about writing, you can mix 5 different thoughts, or 5 different eyedeas, and 5 different emotions into one huge analogy, and I believe Eyedea was a Pro at doing that, A lot of his songs are total allegory, and I don't believe that this song is any exception. I also think this song kind of coincides with "by the throat" off of his last album. God all of his music is sooooo good. | Face candy has one of the guys from E&A in it? Just so you know that sounds really Silly. Face candy was one of Mike Larsen aka Eyedea's many side projects. The only people in E&A were Eyedea and DJ Abilities. So of course Eyedea was "one" of the guys in it. Face candy is Awesome, the whole album is also freestyles, which some people might find hard to believe, but it was. sorry, I just had to comment on that, it just sounded strange to word it like that to me.... | |

| This song in my opinion is about obviously loosing someone you love, and in my opinion it has a lot of undertones on addiction, in particular heroin and the way it ruins relationships. In particular the lyric "you cant forsee your sand being pulled into the sea under a tidal wave. And everyone has the lyrics wrong for the the line. "Oh how easily they forget, no anchor to the past, cut the blood supply and hope the heart beats itself to death, MY RIB CAGE IS NOT MY OWN, IT STILL FEELS LIKE YOUR ARMS, NECK CLOTHED IN SALT HOW'D I LET IT GO THIS FAR" another addiction to heroin addiction in my opinion. The reason i think these are heroin addiction undertones is because, well I have been a heroin addict myself, and when it happens, it gets totally out of control, but you don't realize it until its gotten Sooooo out of control, it's like that old saying about boiling frogs, you put them in cold water and slowly heat it up. Heroin addiction is the same, it starts out like cold water, and before you know it you're in a pot of boiling water. and if anyone has ever been a heroin addict, just the whole feel of the song is so perfect for describing a mix of "loosing someone you love a lot, but still wishing them the best obviously" and comparing it to the way a heroin addiction spirals out of control without you even realizing it until its too late, kind of like a relationship with someone, once you get to a certain comfort level, you kind of relax and things get bad without you even realizing it or intending it to sometimes. Rest in Peace Mike Larsen You inspired a lot of people, and you will live on through every one, not to mention your timeless music and beauty that you created. Thank you. | |
