This song conjures the image of a man waiting to die. He's staving off sleep, because he has to live the time he has left. It sounds like he's writing a confession of some sort; of love; of those he's killed; who knows... It's clear that he's haunted by voices, either of those he's killed or from schizophrenia(?). In the end it sounds like he's being set free from a personal hell via death (lethal injection or suicide). In the closing lines he seems to think he's free, but there's a sudden disappointment cause he says: there is no light here, is there no key. Whatever the meaning, there's a sense of foreboding that underscores the tune. It's both sad and a bit haunting. I like it but it makes me slightly uncomfortable. Great song though! This album deserves so much more love than people on these boards are giving it. |

| Saul Williams – Raised to be Lowered Lyrics | 12 years ago |
| This song makes me feel stronger as a person. I like how the album has an underlying thought about trusting yourself and falling into who you are, regardless of what the world might have to say about it. Overall I get really powerful positive vibes from the album... | |

I had a friend who became a lover. We ignored our intuitions and chose to believe that we could work in the long-term. We were wrong. After a year together, with much love spent, we came to the mutual conclusion that we didn't fit. It took several days of weighing out all that lay before us to finally accept it. And so we drank a bottle of wine and chose a beautiful friendship instead of a failing romance. In the time afterword there were no hard feelings, just respect and thankfulness that we both knew better than to watch something beautiful wither. This song expresses more of what I felt than anything I could have said with my own lips. To me there is a sort of harmony in this song; it’s about accepting the inevitable instead of resisting it and in turn, choosing a brighter future for each other. |

| Depeche Mode – Heaven Lyrics | 12 years ago |

I think the longer you live, the more you realize that life has a rhythm and that you must take the bad with the good for anything to get easier. When you are young you may decide to go around problems, but age teaches you that it’s best to go through them. To me this song is about accepting the pitfalls (the Void) of life, because at the other end of them is peace (Heaven). I think the person behind the song has lived long enough and learned enough to know this and is bracing for impact, so to speak. It also seems there is a bit of a weary and sarcastic tone to the lyric “I’m in heaven”. Like it’s a way of saying, “Don't worry, I've been here before. I'll be alright.” So yes, I see the song as being about the cyclic nature of life; losing and finding yourself time and again and finally realizing you are never really in control. That the only thing you truly have control over, is how you face what life throws at you. On a separate note, I must say I am so happy that Depeche Mode continues to impress me and make me think after so many albums. It's really incredible. |

| This possibly the most beautiful song I've ever heard. Some songs need to be heard and felt; and this is one of them. | |
| Modwheelmood – Problem Me Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| Like most Modwheelmood songs I think this one has to do with alienation. However I find this song pretty hopeful. I think this is about a person nostalgic and is keeping to themselves, but a friend has come to the rescue and is saying "Come with me" and "Let it go", don't let yourself change because something bad happened. I find this song really encouraging. | |
| Amanda Palmer – In My Mind Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| There's something bittersweet about this song and it's confusion. In my oppinion this is about someone who is on their own path and maybe wondering if they should have gone the usual route. It's easy to wonder if you're crazy for doing things your own way, if your life doesn't look like everyone elses. In the end she's proud of being an individual and being true to herself, not falling in line because everyone else does. | |

Reaching mid-twenties means you’re expected to have something to show for yourself (in most peoples eyes at least). I don’t think the person in the song values what most people value, and maybe can’t live up to other peoples standards. Maybe they tend to alienate themselves and other people. Therein lies the crux, do you live to meet other peoples standards or your own? I think this person has lived up to their own, but still can’t gain any favor with the masses. This song is saying screw it “I’m not sorry”, if you can’t accept me for who I am then “Leave me alone”. I think the line “I’m scared of everyone” is implying a fear of life too. Death is easy, life isn’t… dealing with people isn’t easy. |
