The Zombies – A Love That Never Was Lyrics 14 years ago
It was best left unreleased as the bridge has the same melody as part of Follow the Sun by The Beatles.

Sloan – Fading Into Obscurity Lyrics 14 years ago
One of my favorite songs with one of my favorite stanzas of all time (the "caked is baked" part.) Chris is pretty much writing about the lack of fame which can seem like whininess in lesser songwriter's hands but here it is funny and both to the point and obtuse, with the mother part possibly referring to Canada or their fans. I can see how people can interpret that part as a possible breakup of the band. A song certainly deserving NOT having this comment be its first by a band certainly deserving of more attention. Actually, almost any other band might make this song whinier by not deserving notoriety in the first place but the fact Sloan is a brilliant band makes these lyrics accurate and unfortunate.

The Zombies – Don't Cry For Me Lyrics 14 years ago
One of my faves by one of my top 3 bands. That moment of going from painful hurting to "I'm better off now wihtout them." Someone close to me is going through this now, and it often involves someone better and new coming along.

Neil Young – Sample and Hold Lyrics 14 years ago
I can't believe I am the first to tackle this song as this might be Neil's most timely statement and most brilliant song. A dating service for robots is the surface meaning, but I believe at the root is a comment on how superficial our search for a soulmate is. We have our checklist of what we look for (blond, blue eyes, 110 pounds) and when the person is found that fulfills it we call it love, or at least lust, and sample and hold them happily because our list has been satisfied. In that sense we are only robots responding to "blank + blank = perfect partner" in a souless way without consideration for the surprises and intangables that surely go with any higher meaning of love. Think of the popularity of sites like E-harmony and the purely sex related ones. Or just the "sample and hold" mentality of today's hook-up culture. This song well predated all of that.

Radiohead – Fake Plastic Trees Lyrics 14 years ago
I must have a dirty mind because I always thought the line "he used to do surgery for girls in the 80's" meant that he used to deflower girls in his younger stud days and the gravity line was more "what goes up must come down" now that he has gotten older. I never thought of those lines being as literal as people are saying. I think it is the word "girls" which doesn't seem right for cosmetic surgery that largely sees aging women.

Alice Cooper – Cold Ethyl Lyrics 14 years ago
I read in a review that some female journalist took offense to Alice because of this song and the reviewer mentioned that the lady should have listened to Only Women Bleed 2 songs before. I however find Cold Ethyl subtly feminist. It is as if Alice is hearing some guy list what he wants in a woman

1) Always available for sex 2) Silent 3) Easily dominated 4) Not needy.

Then Alice says "okay Mr. Chauvanist pig, I have just the girl for you. Her name is Ethyl." Be careful what you wish for.

The Pretty Things – Bracelets Of Fingers Lyrics 14 years ago
Supposedly this song is about masturbation. Great song as any Pretty Things song inevitably is.
