i think its a real love tragedy this song. jimmy obviously screws up a lot so he tries to get some extra money for christmas to make his wife happy, but when he gets home shes left him. he gets drunk and sleeps around some more but it doesn't make him feel any better. he even reads newspapers from before she left in the hope it will bring her back. the real tragedy is those steaks that washed away in the rain. |

Its about much more than Hornsby. He's a truck driver and the "houndog" is his rig. His truck breaks down and he has to look for alternative transport for his cargo of circus animals. eventually he gets the truck fixed and he continues his journey up the coast of nsw. he's been driving for 10 years and he's tired of it and he dreams of another life travelling through asia. Its interesting that this song contains the only reference to "circus animals" the name of the album. can anyone explain this? |

This is one of the most hauntingly beautiful chisel songs. its about a girl who gives up on her guy and leaves to start a new life. we dont know why she leaves, probably because the guy screwed up somehow. the best line is when he reminisses about the day they met and the words of love he just cant forget. gives me a chill every time even though i've played it hundreds of times. |
