a paid for education {why do they call private schools public schools}. makes a person think he/she. in this song by the sound of it, is superior. this can lead to open hostility to the poor, who are taken to be either lazy or stupid. i always think of cameron and osborne now when i hear this song. eton is very charming. i think i'll rework the lyrics to my own satisfaction. i am working on a song called "osborne to crush" (i was born to crush). |

this song is about germaine greer and elvis's exasperation with her essential misandry {man hating}. he supposes that its rooted in some kind of envy. the foreign bodies that she might take are hormones. as if she were some kind of would be transexual. note the rhymes to germaine (porcelain, pain}.she is of course highly inteligent and overeducated {and over here}. she wants to come first. as a polemicist, she wants to win. elvis dosen't want to come first, or get a first from oxbridge, he just wants to pass. |

thanks for the info about pilgrims progress i didn't know that. i must read it. i think dylan has always borrowed heavily from poetry, even his name. for me this song is about the loss of a powerful relationship in which the narrator thought he had discovered himself and which he thought would be everlasting, but it wasn't. |
