I disagree with the interpretations of this song as being about religion or drugs. This is a leftover song from the Good News for People Who Love Bad News and We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank albums. Those two albums were about the band's relationship with fans. Good News....for People who Love Bad News is for the fans who felt the band had sold out, lost their indie ways of Moon & Antarctica...or even before then. We Were Dead...continuing the story of the band having lost or killed their indie ways before the album had come out. I see this song in the same way, Isaac's reaction to fans turning on him and telling him they loved the band before they became popular. I listen to the songs off this album and those two previous albums with this message running throughout. |
