Doesn't it actually sound like the lyrics are cross my arms, and hope to die? I keep hearing that 's' sound. Even in the acoustic version. |

I agree that this song is beautiful, but I'd have to disagree partially with your opinion of the meaning. While it is agreeable that the song is about religion, it is more or less IMO not about marriage but, based on the blind content that is received upon accepting the idea of going to heaven. The band references 'beautiful colors' marrying the thought of losing each other, which is an interesting idea, because all of the beautiful colors, or complex colors, are made up of primary colors... so if a beautiful color was to lose another color, it wouldn't be what it is. In my opinion, that part is before the second line, because it sets up the idea that the band isn't really talking about colors, but the concept of a flawed logical perception of reality. The next line says basically that its easy to believe that you'll live forever, implying it is much harder to accept the fact there is no known existence of an afterlife, and that you may possibly cease to exist after death. I think that is further reinforced by the melodic repetition of "put your faith in something special, lose yourself in new prescription", which IMO implies that either it is a reasonable plea from the band to people who've become content in their state of mind when dealing with the idea of the after life, and they are asking to find something special to believe in, and not just something easy, and the prescription part would imply, if that was the case, that there is an illness of the mind that should be treated, or the other possible meaning is the opposite, that it is an attempt to mock the ones who've become content with the idea of an afterlife. I would say that its most likely a plea to reconsider the idea, as the next melodic sequience asks, are you happy where you are in life? Its sort of a, IMO, "I've seen the truth, and was like you, but please wake up, friend, song". |

I think this song is about a soldier reading a letter that his brother, friend, or service-man had written. The soldier who wrote the letter is describing the horrid experience of war to his lover, Eleanor via letter. He goes on to state that hopefully he'll be home soon, so it implies that he is part of a game-ending strategy or plan to end the war. He asks Eleanor to not ask questions or prod his experience out in the shit, but to leave him be so he can put it away with time. Obviously though, The author of the letter didn't survive that strategy but succeeded in executing it because the person reading the letter says, "They only saved us from missing our lives" Which would raise the question, who is us? I think it was the group of soldiers that made it home alive due to the heroes that died in the final battle. This person who is reading the letter knows the authors lover, Eleanor, because he says she put away the blame that she felt about not being able to help her lover keep his life. The reader has a final thought implying that he knew the man who saved them all. He states that the hero's breath always reeked of escape. What an amazing song. |

It's been a hell of a day, we hung the black ball over your love. With the dogs that we train, burying anything that we're not sure of. If you'd open your door you'd find us hiding behind your wife and kid fence. You could call it a war, but we're not trying to keep you out, we're trying to keep us in. Keep us in. Keep us in. Keep us in. Gonna talk until we're straight. Find that tiny bug to crush, Kill it till' we're safe! You with your pride and joy.. Me with my criminal threats.. You with your self-inflicted happiness. And me to make it end. That's a hell of way to put a mark down and outlaw a love. With the dogs that we train, fighting off anything that we're not sure of. Keep us in. Keep us in. Keep us in. You with you're pride and joy.. Me with my criminal threats.. You with yourself inflicted happiness and me.. I'm gonna talk until we're straight. Find that tiny bug to crush, Kill it till' we're safe. You with you're pride and joy. Me with my criminal threats. You with your self-inflicted happiness and me, Me to make it. |
