-My Take on this song- This song is about a girl who had some really traumatic stuff happen to her as a kid. Abuse etc... So now she is an adult, and she has developed self-defense mechanisms to deal with this. (Put up walls). A lot of people will pretend like the bad things never happened, and bury this stuff deep into their subconscious (Hideout). The problem is that people who deal with trauma by living in denial that it ever happened, and never emotionally deal with it may put up a facade, and seem fine, but deep down they are really messed up. They will never have a healthy relationship, and will normally turn to cheating on people who love them, or turn to drugs etc. I believe that this song is about being in love with a girl like this. He knows she has this deep dark emotional baggage that she has never dealt with and the relationship failed or is failing. So he is singing about tearing those walls down, exposing the truth, and forcing her to deal with it. But when he gets to the heart of it all...he realizes she doesn't want to deal with it, and he is in her subconscious hideout alone (figuratively) he is the only wants to deal with it...so there is really no hope. He went to her heart, her secret place to help her, but she is not there and has no interest in dealing with it, so he is alone (its cold there now). He is the only one who knows her darkness since she is in denial. The relationship is over. |

This song is def. NOT about drugs. Its about living life, and making mistakes. Bad things happen to you in life and you learn from it. Learning to fly = Living life Ain't got wings = Making mistakes, so you fall Coming down is the hardest thing = the consequences of your actions I am going through a divorce right now and I know that this song basically sums up my life. You try to fly without wings, you crash to the ground. You live life...you crash and fall...It sucks but you learn from it and you keep trying. Thats life. |
