What a beautiful song. Reminds me of how fragile we all truly are and how hard each of us try as we attempt to navigate this world, to make sense of it and ourselves. Sometimes it just doesn't make any sense. We're all dealt different hands in life - born into different circumstances, given different challenges. How much of a choice did we really have? We play the hand we're dealt, hoping for the best. It's when things don't make sense when we have that "if only yesterday" moment. That line is heartbreakingly beautiful. The memories of people, places, and events that we can't forget, that almost hold us back in this state of limbo until we understand why. We're all one big puzzle - pieces that somehow fit together but got jumbled up. All we can really do is help each other make sense of this life and help put the pieces of the world, ourselves and our lives back together - be one another's handymen. This is my favorite song. |

Heels are turning black..yet the light, no matter how dull, keeps the hope alive between you--keeps you going forward. In a way it is hysterical. Intense happiness and pain--all bundled into one. And yet, somehow two individuals will complete each other if they can just make it through the hysteria, the transformation, and become stronger because of the other. I feel this song is about love but a love that has conquered a lot of adversity before becoming what it is--complete. |

What a sad song. The man she loved didn't love her back. She's realizing this. I like the last lines. "I'll breathe again." At least she doesn't have to hold her breath wondering each and every day whether he will return her love. She now knows. She can/will breathe and move on to someone who will love her just as much as she loves him. |

This song reminds me of the game dominoes. One piece starts a chain reaction and everything else down the line is affected. They say the world is one gigantic mirror. If so, the pain and struggle of one person can't be distinct, can't be only his/her's--it would be everybody's pain and struggle. But they also say we only see what we want to see. A jagged little pill symbolizes all the heartache, regret, pain, etc. Basically, all the stuff in life that make us want to shake our heads either at ourselves or others. Experiences. It's like reading a book and seeing a word that you don't understand. You either stop and deliberate over its meaning or if you're like me and you don't always have a dictionary on hand, you'll keep going and hope you understand the passage anyway. But then you realize how important that one word really was--it's what changed the entire passage and potentially the story. We aren't dictionaries, we don't understand every little detail in our lives at every moment. We sort of just skim a lot and hope for the best. We continue and we continue and then one day--it's like damn, I wish I took the time to think that one through. I wish I didn't just skim over it. Regret. Experiences and regret. That is the worst. Just for the record, I love the line, "f for fight." That says it all. This song is about self-efficacy--believing in yourself and your ability to do. His mind has deteriorated and he is disturbed--the gradual accumulation of negative memories have made him into what he is, a bully. He uses the gun to communicate his feelings. But he tells everyone else to run--he tells them to outrun his gun. He thinks other kids have had advantages and they've had starts in life that he didn't have or at least didn't think he had. He knows they can try to run away from him but he also knows that nobody, no matter who they are, can't outrun a bullet. That's how he feels inside--like somebody who's trying to run away but can't. This is definitely a sad song. It's reality. There are lots of young people in this world who feel just as alone as the one in this song. If only they realized that there are other ways to tell the world "I need help," other than using violence. |

You're in pain yet you're willing to challenge fate, you're willing to do whatever it takes to help this person through their pain, their burden as though it's your own. This is a love song. It's about sacrificing your happiness in hopes that it might serve justice to someone who has been routinely screwed over in life. It's beautiful. |
