It was my understanding that this song was about couples who go to swinger's parties and that, who leave with different partners for sex and then return to their shakey marriages. "Throw your keys in the bowl" seems to refer to the way these parties operate, by people choosing keys at random then leaving with the owner. Erm, so I would assume the "House of Cards" is the marriage, as in "Forget about your house of cards". That last bit could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure the rest is right. If Radiohead's normal songwriting habits are anything to go by, I would guess the wider sociopolitical implications of all this are being considered as well, such as the state of society and it's marital unions that drives people to do things like this. I love how hollow the whole song sounds including the video, which probably is done to represent the hollow feeling of the marriage the events taking place. The way things blow away in the video probably is to indicate how fragile they are that they are merely disintegrating. I hope that's all correct haha :) |
